"And its people?"
"We have no wish to destroy them. Merely adjust their minds to suit our purpose."
"Sausages. Man will just become like a string of sausages -- all the same."
-- The Master of the Land of Fiction and the Second Doctor, Doctor Who: "The Mind Robber"
Hello again, everyone! My partner in time Jesse Jackson and I are back with a new episode of Next Stop Everywhere: The Doctor Who Podcast! This time, we discuss "The Mind Robber", the second serial from Doctor Who Season 6 in 1968, featuring Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor, Frazer Hines & Hamish Wilson as Jamie McCrimmon, Wendy Padbury as Zoe Heriot, and Bernard Horsfall as Lemuel Gulliver!
In this episode, Jesse and I discuss things like my having to get a new computer after AEP Ohio zapped my previous one with an intentional power outage, Mount Carmel East Hospital forgetting that my Mom was there for an MRI scan, Neil Patrick Harris being cast for the 60th anniversary special and wondering if he's playing the Celestial Toymaker, director David Maloney, Doctor Who having the versatility to tell any kind of story, Frazer Hines contracting chickenpox and having to be replaced as Jamie by Hamish Wilson, Jamie's battle cry "Creag an tuire", "The Mind Robber" originally being four episodes, the Karkus being Peter Ling's parody of Batman, Frazer Hines' brother Ian playing one of the Tin Soldiers, the gratuitous but iconic shot of Wendy Padbury's bum as she rode the TARDIS console spinning in blank space, Jamie taking his new face surprisingly well, the Karkus being the first superhero seen on Doctor Who, why everyone needed to stay away from Lemuel Gulliver, Rapunzel being cool with everyone using her long hair as a rope, the battle of wits between the Doctor and the Master of the Land of Fiction, the Doctor being targeted as a replacement for the Master of the Land of Fiction, friend of the show Thom Zahler asking Jesse to not be kind in his criticism of his work, wondering if Russell T Davies used the "Mind Robber" character name Captain Jack Harkaway for Captain Jack Harkness, the Doctor telling everyone they will either go back to reality or be obliterated out of existence, our favorite quotes of the episode, my Reverse the Reverse the Polarity segment, new feedback from Holly from Wisconsin, Sandi from Oregon and Dave Proctor, a brief rant on Star Trek fans wanting Uhura and Chapel on Strange New Worlds to be exactly like their characters on the original Star Trek series from the '60s, our upcoming discussion of "The Claws of Axos", and more!
