First SUPERGIRL (2026) Trailer Teases the Woman of Tomorrow and Lobo

And just like that, Gen Z is adding Blondie to their playlists.

DC Studios and Warner Bros. have released the first teaser trailer for Supergirl (2026), the upcoming film starring Milly Alcock as Supergirl/Kara Zor-El and directed by Craig Gillespie, based on the 2021-22 DC Comics limited series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow that was written by Tom King with art by Bilquis Evely.

In the film, Kara Zor-El, better known as Supergirl, celebrates her 23rd birthday by travelling across the galaxy with her dog Krypto. Along the way, she meets the young Ruthye Marye Knoll and encounters a tragedy that leads her on a "murderous quest for revenge".

The two-minute trailer opens with Krypto knocking over a half-empty bottle of liquor, which turns on a record player that starts playing the 1980 song "Call Me" by Blondie. Krypto comes across a copy of the Daily Planet, which has the main headline "Superman Saves Town from Nuclear Reactor Explosion" with another smaller headline below that reads "Supergirl Rescues Cats." Krypto then proceeds to urinate on the newspaper's picture of David Corenswet's Superman from Superman (2025). Kara, apparently waking up from a hangover, remarks, "You managed to get most of it on the paper this time. Good job, buddy."

As "Call Me" kicks in harder, a sort of space bus lands at a bus stop where Kara, wearing a long coat and dark sunglasses, is waiting. "Hi...Kara Zor-El," she says in a voiceover. "Year-wide is clear, and 23 will be the best year yet." As she celebrates her 23rd birthday drinking and dancing in a bar on an alien planet, presumably under a red sun, we learn she's talking to Krypto. She adds, "Let's be honest, babe. It's not a very high bar to clear."

Next, we see a large energy dome come down over a section of a city, which could be the Kryptonian city of Kandor, teasing the upcoming appearance of Brainiac in the Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow. We're introduced to Ruthye Marye Knoll (Eve Ridley), who tells Kara, "I didn't know any of you were still alive. What was it like to lose everything in a day?"

Kara replies, "Krypton didn't die in a day. The gods are not that kind."

Later, as Kara and Ruthye find themselves surrounded by dozens of mercenaries aiming their laser-sighted weapons at them, who presumably belong to the film's villain, Krem of the Yellow Hills. Kara remarks, "Okay, this does not look like this is gonna end well...for you guys."

After a few glimpses of action, Ruthye asks Supergirl, "Do others on your planet have powers like you?"

"Uh...no, it's a pretty small group of two," replies Supergirl.

We see Kara using her heat vision to protect Ruthye, followed by Kara petting an injured Krypto with concern. A brief glimpse of Jason Momoa as Lobo is shown, just starting to step into view.

In the teaser trailer's final scene, Ruthye then asks Kara about Superman and as we see Supergirl taking on Krem's mercenaries, she replies, "He sees the good in everyone...and I see the truth."

If you'd like to check out the teaser trailer, you can view it below thanks to the official DC and Warner Bros. accounts on YouTube...

Supergirl (2026) is scheduled to arrive in theaters on June 26, 2026.

SUPERGIRL: WOMAN OF TOMORROW Casts Jason Momoa as Lobo

The Main Man is coming to the big screen.

Deadline is confirming reports that the upcoming DC Universe film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, based on the DC Comics character, has cast Jason Momoa as the bounty hunter Lobo. Momoa joins Milly Alcock as Supergirl/Kara Zor-El, Matthias Schoenaerts as the main antagonist Krem, and Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll.

Craig Gillespie will direct Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow from a script by Ana Nogueira. The project is based on the 2022 DC Comics limited series of the same name, written by Tom King and drawn by Bilquis Evely.

Momoa, 45, is best known to DC Comics fans as Aquaman/Arthur Curry in the films Aquaman, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, and Justice League. He's also appeared as Duncan Idaho in Dune (2021), Khal Drogo on the HBO series Game of Thrones, and as Ronon Dex on Stargate: Atlantis. In addition, Momoa also portrayed the lead role of Conan in the 2011 remake of Conan the Barbarian.

According to the article, Momoa has been linked to the character before James Gunn came in to lead DC alongside Peter Safran. He’s been vocal in the past about his interest in the part and today confirmed his attachment to the role in a post on Instagram, where he included comments from a previous interview.

Created in 1983 by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, Lobo first appeared in Omega Men (vol.1) #3 as a Velorpian whose entire race had been exterminated by the Psions.  Lobo played an important role in the Citadel War, in his capacity as a bounty hunter.  He was hired by the Citadel's human agent Harry Hokum to capture the Euphorian known as Kalista in a bid to learn the secret behind her home world's planetary shield.  Along with fellow bounty hunters Bedlam and Berserk, he raided the mothership belonging to the Omega Men, where upon he engaged in combat with Kalista.  Soon after, Harry Hokum hired Lobo once again, this time to assassinate the Omega Men's interim leader Tigorr.  Lobo never had the opportunity to complete the contract however.

In 1988's Justice League International (vol.1) #18, the character was revamped as a Czarnian whose name comes from a Khund dialect that means "one who devours your entrails and thoroughly enjoys it."  He hailed from the planet Czarnia, which was a virtual paradise that knew nothing of war and the Czarnians were almost immortal.  When Lobo was born, his evil was so frighteningly apparent, the nurse who delivered him went insane and became the planet's first mental patient in ten millennia after the infant Lobo chewed off four of her fingers.  Lobo knew he was one of a kind, but he wanted even more.  Inspired by the idea of genocide, Lobo created a swarm of lethal scorpion-like creatures and set them on his people, wiping out his entire species but himself.

After traveling across the galaxies as an intergalactic bounty hunter, Lobo made his first appearance on the planet Earth when he was hired by Manga Khan to take out the newly formed Justice League International.  However, after Big Barda teleported Lobo across the galaxy, Lobo landed on Earth in the Justice League Embassy.  After a brief altercation with Guy Gardner, Lobo hung around, pretending to be a friend, while waiting for the right moment.   Before he could act, however, Manga Khan canceled his contract.  Since then, he encountered various DC Comics superheroes, operating solo or as a member of L.E.G.I.O.N.

In DC Rebirth, Lobo was reintroduced in the limited series Justice League vs. Suicide Squad as one of the villains freed by Maxwell Lord who was a member of Amanda Waller's first Suicide Squad.  Batman eventually implanted a bomb into Lobo's brain and detonated it, blowing up Lobo's head.  After Lobo regenerated it, he discovered Batman did so to free him from Lord's control, and later accepted Batman's offer to join a new incarnation of the Justice League of America to repay the favor.

Momoa will be the second actor to portray Lobo in live action, after Emmett J. Scanlan on the TV series Krypton. The character has appeared in various animated projects, including Superman: The Animated Series and Justice League (voiced by Brad Garrett), Young Justice (voiced by David Sobolov), and Justice League Action (voiced by John DiMaggio).

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on June 26, 2026.

SUPERGIRL: WOMAN OF TOMORROW Casts Milly Alcock as Supergirl

The Girl of Steel is now a Woman of Tomorrow.

Deadline is reporting that Milly Alcock has been cast as Kara Zor-El, also known to DC Comics fans as Supergirl, in the upcoming film version of Tom King and Bilquis Evely's 2021 limited series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

According to the article, Alcock beat out CODA actress Emilia Jones and Meg Donnelly, who voiced Supergirl in the DC animated movies Legion of Super-Heroes and Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part One.

Alcock's Supergirl is expected by many to debut in James Gunn’s upcoming film Superman: Legacy, which is about to go before the cameras in Georgia, but Deadline claims that's not a certainty. At the very least, she'll appear in some DC-based project before starring in her solo feature, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is an eight-issue miniseries that focuses on Kara Zor-El's quest through space, aided by Krypto, and is told from the perspective of Ruthye, a new character. Ruthye, an alien girl Kara meets along her journey, is looking for justice for her father's death.

Alcock, 23, is an Australian actress best known as the young Rhaenyra Targaryen in the HBO fantasy series House of the Dragon. In addition, she's appeared in episodes of the TV series Upright, The Gloaming, and Reckoning.

Created in 1959 by Otto Binder, Al Plastino and Curt Swan, Supergirl first appeared in Action Comics (vol.1) #252 as Kara Zor-El, the daughter of Jor-El's brother Zor-El and cousin to Superman. She was the last survivor of Argo City, which had survived the destruction of the planet Krypton until meteorites of Green Kryptonite penetrated Argo City's protective barrier. Sent to Earth by Zor-El to be raised by her cousin, Kara acquired powers similar to Superman and adopted the secret identity of Linda Lee, a young girl at Midvale Orphanage.

In the New 52 continuity, Kara's ship lands as part of a meteor shower in Smallville, Kansas, but burrows through the Earth and emerges in Siberia. Kara has no memory of the destruction of Krypton and believes herself to be dreaming. The military tracks her arrival, and a group of American soldiers in mechanized suits immediately attack her. Her powers start emerging as the fight goes on and terrify the surprised Kara. Superman arrives after she defeats the soldiers and tries to convince Kara that he is her cousin, but Kara, still believing that only three days have passed since she last saw baby Kal, accuses him of being an imposter and attacks him. Eventually, Kara accepts that Krypton has been destroyed and that Superman is indeed her grown-up cousin.

Alcock will be the fifth actress to portray the character in live action, after Sasha Calle in the 2023 film The Flash, Melissa Benoist on the CBS/CW TV series SupergirlLaura Vandervoort
on WB/CW series Smallvilleand Helen Slater in the 1984 film Supergirl that was a spinoff from the Superman films starring Christopher Reeve.  The character has also appeared a number of times in animation, including Superman: The Animated Series and Justice League Unlimited (voiced by Nicholle Tom), and the Super Best Friends Forever DC Nation animated shorts (voiced by Nicole Sullivan).

Superman: Legacy is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on July 11, 2025.

DC Studios Announces "Chapter One" Slate of DC Universe Film & TV Projects

A time of gods and monsters is about to begin.

Earlier today, DC Studios officially announced its first slate of ten interconnected projects, comprising five movies and five HBO Max TV series. Filmmaker James Gunn and producer Peter Safran, now serving as Co-Chairmen and CEOs of DC Studios, stated that all ten of them are set within the same shared universe and will frequently share characters. However, there will be films set outside the shared continuity—such as the previously announced Joker: Folie à Deux from director Todd Phillips and Matt Reeves’ upcoming The Batman Part II.

"The DCU’s a multiverse," explained Safran, "but we’re going to be focusing on one universe from that multiverse. And if something isn’t DCU, we’re going to make that very clear. So, strictly adult fare like Todd Phillips’ Joker, or kids animation like Teen Titans Go!, we’re going to make it very clear that those are DC Elseworlds, just the same way that they do it in the comic books."

While all ten projects are in active development, some are further along than others and both Gunn and Safran emphasize that plans may change. "What we’re starting with today is the first part of the first chapter of our universe," Safran remarked. "That first chapter’s called ‘Gods and Monsters.’ Many of the following projects are already being worked on, but we’re remaining flexible and we’re going to adjust because we’re never going to put a project into production before the script is right. This is a general timeline, but there will be flexibility within it."

And here are the first ten projects from DC Studios...

Creature Commandos -- Based on the team of military superhumans that first appeared in Weird War Tales #93 in 1980, this will be the first TV series from DC Studios, an animated project written by Gunn that will consist of seven episodes. In the image above (from left to right), the team will feature Rick Flag, Sr., Nina Mazursky. Doctor Phosphorus, Frankenstein, The Bride of Frankenstein, G.I. Robot, and Weasel (from Gunn's DC film The Suicide Squad).

Waller -- Set between Seasons One and Two of HBO Max's Peacemaker series, Waller will feature the return of Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, who was last seen watching a broadcast of her daughter Leota Adebayo exposing Task Force X and Project Butterfly to the public, as well as Waller's involvement in both programs.

According to Gunn, Waller is "also going to have some of the Peacemaker team in it as regulars on the show." The series has tapped Jeremy Carver, creator of the acclaimed TV adaptation of DC's Doom Patrol, along with Watchmen limited series writer Christal Henry.

Superman: Legacy -- Safran stated this new Superman feature film will be the launch of the DCU and is being written by Gunn, with hopes that he will also direct it. "It’s not an origin story," he remarked. "It focuses on Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. Superman represents truth, justice and the American way. He is kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old fashioned."

Superman: Legacy is slated to arrive in theaters on July 11, 2025.

Lanterns -- This HBO Max series replaces the previous Green Lantern TV series developed by Greg Berlanti and will feature DC Comics characters Hal Jordan and John Stewart. Safran stated the series will be "more of a True Detective-type mystery with our two Lanterns. A terrestrial-based mystery—"

"-- that leads into the overall story that we’re telling throughout the different movies and television shows," finished Gunn. "We find this ancient horror on Earth, and these guys are basically supercops on 'Precinct Earth.'" The series will weave back and forth between DCU films and television shows, similar to Peacemaker.

The Authority -- Based on the superhero team from DC's WildStorm imprint that debuted in 1999's The Authority (vol.1) #1, the live-action film is a passion project for Gunn and will be a "very different kind of superhero story. They are basically good-intentioned, but they think that the world is completely broken and the only way to fix it is to take things into their own hands, whether that means killing people, destroying heads of state, changing governments—basically, whatever they want to do to make the world better. We’ll see how that journey goes for them."

Paradise Lost -- According to Safran, this HBO Max series is set before the birth of Wonder Woman and will be "a Game of Thrones-type story about Themyscira/Paradise Island, home of the Amazons and the birthplace of Wonder Woman. This involves all of the darkness, drama and political intrigue behind this society of only women."

Gunn added, "It’s an origin story of how this society of women came about. What does it mean? What are their politics like? What are their rules? Who’s in charge? What are the games that they play with each other to get to the top? I think it’s really exciting."

The Brave and the Bold -- This live-action film will be the introduction of the DCU's Batman, who will be played by someone other than Robert Pattinson and Ben Affleck.

Gunn remarked the film will be "a story of Damian Wayne, who’s Batman’s actual son that he didn’t know existed for the first eight to ten years of his life. He was raised as a little murderer and assassin. He’s my favorite Robin. It’s based on the Grant Morrison comic run, which is one of my favorite Batman runs."

Safran added, "This is going to feature other members of the extended Bat-Family. Just because we feel like they’ve been left out of the Batman stories in the theater for far too long."

Booster Gold -- The glory-seeking superhero that debuted in 1986's Booster Gold (vol.1) #1 will get his own HBO Max Tv series and is described by Safran as "a loser from the future who uses his basic future technology to come back to today to pretend to be a superhero."

Gunn added, "I think of it as basically the story of a superhero’s imposter syndrome. How do you deal with that? (It’s about) how he tries to use this future technology to be loved by the people of today and what is really at the base of that. It’s a character story that’s going to be a very different type of show, and we’re talking to an actor about it now."

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow -- Based on the 2021 limited series by Tom King and Bilquis Evely, this live-action film has had input from King along with four or five other writers.

Gunn remarked, "In our story, we have Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by incredibly loving parents. Kara was on Krypton. She was on a piece of Krypton that drifted away from the planet and she lived there for the first fourteen years of her life in a horrible situation where she watched everyone around her die. So, she’s a much harsher and more fucked-up Supergirl than you’ve been used to thus far."

Swamp Thing -- The final project announced for "Chapter One" will be a live-action film that will investigate the dark origins of DC's plant elemental Swamp Thing in the character's first film since 1989's The Return of Swamp Thing.

Although low on details, Safran commented, "We bring it up because it’s important to point out that in these stories, although they’re interconnected, they’re not all tonally the same. Each set of filmmakers bring their own aesthetic to these films, and the fun is seeing how these tonally different works mash up in the future."

THE FLASH Movie Casts Sasha Calle as Supergirl

The DC Extended Universe just got its own Supergirl.

Deadline has word that the upcoming DC Extended Universe film The Flash, starring Ezra Miller as The Flash/Barry Allen, has cast Latina actress Sasha Calle as Superman's cousin, Supergirl/Kara Zor-El.

According to the article, Calle was chosen from more than 425 actresses who auditioned.  The actresses weren’t informed what part they were reading for, until very late in the process. Calle also did a chemistry read with Miller.

The Flash director Andy Muschietti watched all the auditions and reportedly "was blown away by the actress’ toughness and vulnerability that she brought to the role."  "I saw more than four hundred auditions," remarked Muschietti.  "The talent pool was truly amazing and it was very hard to make a decision, but we finally found an actress who was destined to play this role."

Calle, 25, is best known as Lola Rosales on the CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless, where she was nominated last year in the Outstanding Young Performer in a Drama series category at the Daytime Emmys.  She has also appeared in the short films The White Shoes and Final Stop.

Calle will be the fourth actress to portray the character in live action, after Melissa Benoist on the CBS/CW TV series SupergirlLaura Vandervoort on WB/CW series Smallvilleand Helen Slater in the 1984 film Supergirl that was a spinoff from the Superman films starring Christopher Reeve.  The character has also appeared a number of times in animation, including Superman: The Animated Series and Justice League Unlimited (voiced by Nicholle Tom), and the Super Best Friends Forever DC Nation animated shorts (voiced by Nicole Sullivan).

The Flash is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on November 4, 2022.

CW Developing SUPERGIRL Spinoff SUPERMAN & LOIS

Looks like Henry Cavill won't be suiting up again as Superman anytime soon.

The Hollywood Reporter has word that The CW is developing Superman & Lois, a new Arrowverse series starring Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch as their respective Supergirl characters Superman/Clark Kent and Lois Lane.

According to the article, Superman & Lois will focus on "the world's most famous superhero and comics' most famous journalist as they deal with all the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today's society."  This description hints that their son in the comics, Jon Kent, may be featured as well.

Former The Flash showrunner Todd Helbing will write the script and serve as executive producer for the potential series.  In March, Helbing stepped down as showrunner on The Flash to focus on developing Superman & Lois.

This is the second Arrowverse spinoff in development at The CW for the 2020-21 TV season, after the proposed Arrow spinoff Green Arrow and the Canaries starring Katherine McNamara as Mia Smoak/Green Arrow, Katie Cassidy as Laurel Lance/Black Canary and Juliana Harkavy as Dinah Drake/Black Canary.

Hoechlin, 32, made his Arrowverse debut as Superman in the 2016 Supergirl episode "The Adventures of Supergirl".  He's also known as Derek Hale on the MTV series Teen Wolf and also appeared in the films Fifty Shades Darker, Fifty Shades Freed, Everybody Wants Some!!, Solstice, and Road to Perdition.  In addition, he's appeared on episodes of the TV series Castle, Lincoln Heights, CSI: Miami, and 7th Heaven.

Tulloch, 38, made her Arrowverse debut as Lois Lane in the 2018 The Flash episode "Elseworlds, Part 1".  She's also known as Juliette Silverton/Eve on the NBC series Grimm, has appeared in the films Concussion and The Artist, and on episodes of Portlandia, Tyranny, Outlaw, Moonlight, House, Cold Case, and The West Wing.

Hoechlin's Superman and Tulloch's Lois Lane will next appear in the upcoming CW crossover event, "Crisis on Infinite Earths", which begins with Supergirl on December 8, 2019.

The CW Arrowverse Casts Stephen Lobo as The Spectre

What the Spectre fears may destroy us all.

IGN has revealed that actor Stephen Lobo has been cast for the upcoming Arrowverse crossover event "Crisis on Infinite Earths" as Detective Jim Corrigan, better known to DC Comics fans as the supernatural antihero The Spectre.

According to the article, "the network isn't confirming whether The Spectre himself will appear, though given the character's role in the original Crisis on Infinite Earths comic, that seems a distinct possibility."

Executive producer Marc Guggenheim remarked, "Fans of the Crisis on Infinite Earths comic know the Spectre plays a pivotal role.  We’re thrilled Stephen is our Jim Corrigan."

Lobo, 45, is a Canadian-British actor probably best known as Matthew Kellog on the Syfy series Continuum.  He's appeared in episodes of Supernatural, The X-Files, Smallvillle, Fringe, Painkiller Jane, Colony, Zoo, Arctic Air, and The Dead Zone.

Created by Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel and artist Bernard Baily, The Spectre first appeared in 1940's More Fun Comics #52 as Jim Corrigan, a hard-boiled cop who was on his way to his engagement party until was he murdered by being stuffed into a barrel filled with cement and then drowned.  His spirit was refused entry into the afterlife however, instead being sent back to Earth by a supernatural entity referred to only as "The Voice" to eradicate evil.  Assuming the identity of The Spectre, Corrigan begins seeking vengeance against his murderers in grim, supernatural ways.  Breaking off his engagement with his fiancée Clarice, Corrigan continues his crusade, becoming the Spectre whenever he's needed.

During the event known as Crisis on Infinite Earths, The Spectre united superheroes and supervillains by warning them about the threat of the Anti-Monitor.  The heroes traveled back in time to stop the Anti-Monitor, while the villains traveled back in time to the ancient planet Oa to prevent renegade scientist Krona from creating the technology necessary for the Anti-Monitor's plan to succeed.  The villains failed, and Krona continued his experiment. The Anti-Monitor waited for Alexander Luthor to reopen the portal between the positive and antimatter universes, capturing the heroes, but the magically empowered Spectre created an energy overload which shattered space and time.  The five Earths merged into a single shared universe, and the superheroes returned to the present, with only those present at the dawn of time remembering the original realities.

In the current New 52 continuity, Corrigan is a Gotham City Police Detective whose fiancee is kidnapped.  Guided by the Phantom Stranger on the instructions of The Voice, the Stranger leads Corrigan to the abandoned warehouse where she is being kept, but this turns out to be a trap.  Jim Corrigan and his girlfriend are murdered by the kidnappers and he is then transformed into The Spectre, who accuses the Phantom Stranger of betraying him.  As the Spectre is about to attack the Phantom Stranger, The Voice intervenes and sends the Spectre off to inflict his wrath on those who are more deserving.

Lobo will be the second actor to portray The Spectre in live-action, after Emmett J. Scanlan in the NBC series Constantine.  The character has also appeared in the animated short DC Showcase: The Spectre (voiced by Gary Cole) and on the series Batman: The Brave and the Bold (voiced by Mark Hamill).

The "Crisis on Infinite Earths" crossover event begins with the CW series Supergirl on December 8, 2019.
