NEXT STOP EVERYWHERE 149: "Death of the Doctor" is Up!

"It's daft, though, because, well, we were both saying that we had this theory that if you ever died, we'd feel it some somehow...We'd just know. That's just silly, isn't it?"
"I don't know...maybe not, 'cause between you and me, if that day ever comes...I think the whole universe might just shiver."
-- Sarah Jane Smith and the Eleventh Doctor, The Sarah Jane Adventures: "Death of the Doctor"

Hello again, Whovians!  My partner in time Jesse Jackson returns to Next Stop Everywhere to help me discuss "Death of the Doctor", the third serial from The Sarah Jane Adventures Series 4 in 2010, starring Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith, Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor, Katy Manning as Jo (Grant) Jones, and Finn Jones as Santiago Jones!

In this episode, Jesse and I discuss things like Jesse and I both playing under the weather, Luke Smith being written out of The Sarah Jane Adventures, Russell T. Davies writing for the Eleventh Doctor, whether James Bond is a Time Lord, Katy Manning finally returning on screen as Jo Grant/Jones, Finn Jones as Iron Fist, wanting to see the progeny of a companion as a companion, Jimmy Vee as the new R2-D2, the Doctor's offhand remark about being able to regenerate 507 times, Jo realizing that the Doctor has been checking up on what she's been doing since she left him, TV canon overwriting book canon, getting status updates on other past companions, RTD intending to reintroduce Sophie Aldred as Ace on The Sarah Jane Adventures, that awkward moment when the Eleventh Doctor tells Jo that he has married companions, wondering why more companions in the same time era don't reach out to one another, Jo geeking out of being inside the TARDIS once again, Jesse needing the Doctor to connect to The Sarah Jane Adventures, H.R. Pufnstuf, The Sarah Jane Adventures' puppetry compared to Farscape's, running down the Shansheeths' plan, our favorite quotes of the story, my Reverse the Polarity segment, new listener feedback from Holly from Wisconsin and Hannah Skorapa, teasing Episode 150, and more!

Hulu Developing HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY TV Series

Are you someone who really knows where your towel is?

Deadline has revealed that the Hulu streaming service is developing a television series based on Douglas Adams' beloved comedic sci-fi novel The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

According to the article, the series "follows the intergalactic adventures of Arthur Dent, a hapless Englishman, following the destruction of Earth by the Vogons, a race of unpleasant and bureaucratic aliens."

Carlton Cuse and Jason Fuchs, both fans of Adams' five Hitchhiker's novels, will write, executive produce and serve as showrunners for the proposed series, a modern updating of the story.  The project is now in development at Hulu via ABC Signature and Cuse’ Genre Arts.  Fuchs is writing the pilot script.

Created by Adams in 1978, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy originally began as a BBC Radio series, with the first four parts adapted by Adams as a novel one year later.  The novel became extremely popular, with Adams writing four additional novels in the series -- The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, Life, the Universe and Everything, So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish, and Mostly HarmlessA sixth installment, And Another Thing..., was published in 2009, eight years after Adams' death, and written by Eoin Colfer with the support of Jane Belson, Adams' widow.

The novel was first adapted as a BBC TV series in 1981, with six episodes starring Simon Jones as Arthur Dent, David Dixon as Ford Prefect, Mark Wing-Davey as Zaphod Beeblebrox, and Sandra Dickinson as Trillian.  In 2005, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy film adaptation was released, with Adams co-writing the screenplay before his death in 2001.  The film starred Martin Freeman as Arthur Dent, Mos Def as Ford Prefect, Sam Rockwell as Zaphod Beeblebrox, and Zooey Deschanel as Trillian.

STAR TREK: DISCOVERY Casts David Ajala as Cleveland Booker

Will Book shepherd the Discovery crew to new adventures?

Deadline revealed that David Ajala will be joining the third season of CBS All Access' Star Trek: Discovery as new series regular Cleveland "Book" Booker.  He was introduced during the Star Trek Universe panel at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con, joining Discovery star Sonequa Martin-Green and executive producers Alex Kurtzman, Michelle Paradise and Heather Kadin.

According to the character description, Book is "Smart and capable, Book has a natural charisma and devil-may-care attitude that tends to get him into trouble as often as it gets him out."

Ajala, 33, is a British actor best known as Manchester Black on the CW's Supergirl and as Captain Roy Eris on the Syfy series Nightflyers.  He's also played Peter in the Doctor Who episode "The Beast Below" and has appeared in episodes of Misfits, Death in Paradise, Black Mirror, Law & Order: UK, Black Box, and Falling Water.  Ajala's film appearances include The Dark Knight, Fast & Furious 6, and Jupiter Ascending.

Ajala remarked on playing the character, "Book is gonna be a character that’s gonna break the rules just a little bit.  It’s always fun to break the rules, and we’re gonna do that right from the start this season."

In the Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 finale, "Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2", the Discovery entered a wormhole that took them to the planet Terralysium in the 32nd century, stranding the ship and its crew some 930 years into their future.

Star Trek: Discovery is expected to return for Season 3 on CBS All Access sometime in Early 2020.
