-- The Tall Man, Phantasm
Hello again, movie fans! My wonderful co-host Xan Sprouse and I are back with a new episode of Drunk Cinema! This time, we watch Phantasm, the 1979 science fantasy horror film written & directed by Don Coscarelli, introducing Angus Scrimm as The Tall Man, A. Michael Baldwin as Mike Pearson, and Reggie Bannister as Reggie!
In this episode, Xan and I discuss things like Xan finally trying a peanut butter burger, The Hogan Family TV series, why we need to watch Fast Times at Ridgemont High, why Xan loves Phantasm, my getting a Sam Raimi vibe from Phantasm, Reggie Bannister becoming the main protagonist of the Phantasm franchise, Crispin Glover's controversial appearance on Late Night with David Letterman, Xan wanting Criterion to release Mike Nesmith's Elephant Parts, Phantasm making $22 million from just a $300,000 budget, J.J. Abrams being a Phantasm geek, Phantasm not being an orgasm for a ghost, why Phantasm has a different title in Australia, my wondering why six healthy guys needed to lift a coffin with both hands, Heart's song "Barracuda", the Tall Man being pissed that Mike rode his motorbike through the cemetery, Jody quickly picking up the Lady in Lavender at a bar, the Lady in Lavender's obviously fake stunt boobs, Mike sucking on a Charms Blow Pop, Xan never hiding in a coffin, Buster Brown shoes, the She-Hulk: Attorney at Law version of The Incredible Hulk (1978) opening credits, bad '70s interior decorating, workplace discrimination against short guys, the Friday the 13th movie franchise, how Don Coscarelli got the idea for the Tall Man's severed finger, Motorhead's song "Ace of Spades" being inspired by Phantasm, Star Wars: The Force Awakens character Captain Phasma being inspired by Phantasm, some Drunk Mail from Christine Peruski, why we're not watching Avatar, the passing of Robbie Coltrane, my story "The Midnight Hour" for DC Comics' Terrors Through Time 2022 Halloween anthology, Rachel Frend joining us in the Drunk Cinema Theatre for UHF, Xan being turned on by Jonathan Frakes' "Riker Maneuver", my being almost forgiven by Xan, and more!
