"But what of the true God, to whose Glory, churches and monasteries have been built on these islands for generations past? Now sir, what of Him?"
"He's dead. He can't complain. He had His chance and in modern parlance, blew it."
-- Sgt. Neil Howie and Lord Summerisle, The Wicker Man (1973)
Hello again, movie fans! My wonderful co-host Xan Sprouse and I are back with a new episode of Drunk Cinema! In this 50th episode, we watch The Wicker Man, the 1973 British folk horror film directed by Robin Hardy, featuring Edward Woodward as Sgt. Neil Howie, Christopher Lee as Lord Summerisle, and Britt Ekland as Willow MacGregor!
This time, Xan and I discuss things like Xan having a family emergency right before we started recording, watching a 50-year-old movie for our 50th episode, turning the "Dings" from Xan's text notifications into a drinking game, the Madonna concert Xan was going to see being indefinitely postponed, a little background on folk horror, the 1972 mystery thriller Sleuth, David Pinner's original 1967 novel Ritual, Edward Woodward as the original Equalizer, Christopher Lee and Britt Ekland both being in The Man with the Golden Gun, Britt Ekland's voice being dubbed twice, Ingrid Pitt appearing in the Doctor Who serials "The Time Monster" and "Warriors of the Deep", my struggle to find English beer at my local Meijer store, Simon Pegg's Hot Fuzz character Nicholas Angel being based on Sgt. Neil Howie, Sam the Eagle getting laid, the barman being cool with someone dry-humping his daughter in public, everyone on Summerisle having sex with one another, Sgt. Howie being a virgin, why Xan should put out the homecoming queen photo of Laura Palmer from Twin Peaks as one of her own photos, Lord Summerisle and Jon Pertwee's Third Doctor going to the same hairstylist, Christopher Lee singing like Saruman, Sgt. Howie finally connecting the dots about how totally screwed he is, Sgt. Howie's appointment with the Wicker Man, wondering why Sgt. Howie didn't try to smash his way out of the Wicker Man, new Drunk Mail from Dave Proctor, my finally getting a Bluesky account, the passing of Paul Reubens, and more!
