NEXT STOP EVERYWHERE 289: "Cold War" Is Up!

"It's an Ice Warrior! A native of the planet Mars. And we go way back. Way back."
"Martian? You can't be serious!"
"I'm always serious...with days off."
-- The Eleventh Doctor and Captain Zhukov, Doctor Who: "Cold War"

Hello again, everyone! My partner in time Jesse Jackson and I are back with a new episode of Next Stop Everywhere: The Doctor Who Podcast! This time, we're joined by special guest companion Christine Peruski as we discuss "Cold War", the eighth episode from Doctor Who Series Seven in 2013, featuring Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor, Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald, David Warner as Professor Grisenko, and the debut of the Ice Warriors in the modern era!

In this episode, Jesse, Christine and I discuss things like the return of the Mistress of Correction, Christine's recent performance review, Jesse meeting up with original NSE logo designer Thom Zahler for Free Comic Book Day, a Next Stop News Flash as we discuss the latest teaser trailer and titles for the upcoming Doctor Who 60th Anniversary Specials, the return of Murray Gold as series composer, David Warner's Doctor Who and assorted science fiction movie and TV roles, Liam Cunningham and Tobias Menzies as Game of Thrones veterans, Spencer Wilding playing the physical form of Darth Vader in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, "Cold War" being the first Ice Warriors story since "The Monster of Peladon" in 1974, showrunner Steven Moffat being hesitant to bring the Ice Warriors back, Clara being the only female character in "Cold War", the first appearance of the HADS (Hostile Action Displacement System) in "The Krotons", "Cold War" being a bit like the film The Hunt for Red October, Jesse and I living through the actual Cold War, the latest interesting items in the Doctor's pockets, Christine wondering why writer Mark Gatiss had Clara unconscious for an unspecified amount of time, Captain Zhukov being more open-minded while Lt. Stepashin is the Soviet hardliner, the greatness of Professor Grisenko and his love of British new wave music like Ultravox and Duran Duran, the Doctor encountering an Ice Warrior again after so long, Skaldak not coping well with learning that he was encased in ice for 5,000 years, Clara being the one to talk to Skaldak, the Doctor finally not having to worry about a companion wandering off, Mark Gatiss giving the Ice Warriors some new tricks, Skaldak learning about the concept of Mutually Assured Destruction, few people in the '80s being familiar with karaoke, our favorite quotes of the story, my Reverse the Polarity segment, new feedback from Sandi from Oregon and Holly Mac, Christine's upcoming return to Drunk Cinema to watch Tremors, our upcoming discussion of "The Green Death", and more!
