First TRON: ARES Teaser Trailer Has Programs Go Off the Grid

Ready? 'Cause there's no going back.

Disney has released the first teaser trailer for Tron: Ares, the long-awaited sequel to 1982's Tron and 2010's Tron: Legacy, directed by Joachim Rønning and starring Jared Leto as Ares, Greta Lee as Eve Kim, Evan Peters as Julian Dillinger, and returning Tron actor Jeff Bridges reprising his role of Kevin Flynn once again.

Tron: Ares follows a highly sophisticated program, Ares, who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humans' first encounter with A.I. beings.

The 90-second trailer opens at night with an overhead shot of an unknown city, showcasing the streets in a very gridlike pattern. We overhear a police dispatcher saying "Reports of a motorcyclist exceeding 120 miles per hour, last seen heading northbound."

An officer responds, "Unit 12 acknowledging Dispatch. Already in pursuit."

We cut to a freeway chase as we see two helmeted lightcycle riders trimmed in glowing red from the Grid, now in the real world, speeding and weaving around freeway traffic. As the police car pursues them, one of the lightcycle riders activates a light trail, which quickly bisects the police car straight down the middle.

Next, we overhear the voice of Ares, who remarks, "I'm looking for something. Something I do not understand."

This is followed by Eve Kim, who is standing in the middle of a street and looking up as the crowd behind her begins to turn and run after seeing something. We then get a glimpse of Gillian Anderson's unnamed character.

Suddenly, a large Recognizer from the Grid is shown moving past a skyscraper window as it begins to go after Eve, who understandably starts running away from it.

Fleeting images of the Grid follow, as we see a program trimmed in natural blue riding a red version of a jet ski along a river. Next, we see three red-trimmed airships heading toward the Grid's communication beam portal that contacts the real world.

Images of red-trimmed soldiers armed with staffs are shown as the electronic score by Nine Inch Nails kicks into overdrive. We see Arturo Castro's unnamed character, followed by one of the soldiers in red trim begin to de-rez. Fighter jets in the real world fire missiles at the Grid airships, only to be easily blocked by the airships' red light trails.

Next, we hear the voice of Kevin Flynn say "Ready?" as Ares is slowly covered in a red-trimmed suit. "'Cause there's no going back."

The last thing we see is Eve looking up at the carnage above her, including the Recognizer, which now has some damage, and the aforementioned aerial combat.
