DOCTOR WHO Series 14/Season 1 Trailer Brings Back the Fifteenth Doctor & Ruby Sunday

Time may change him, but you can't trace time.

Disney+ and the BBC have released the first full trailer for Doctor Who Series 14, or the new Season 1, depending on your point of view. After their debut last Christmas in "The Church on Ruby Road", Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson return for their season as the Fifteenth Doctor and Ruby Sunday.

The two-minute trailer opens with the TARDIS sliding into UNIT's new headquarters in London, which first appeared in the third 60th Anniversary Special, "The Giggle." After the TARDIS comes to a screeching halt, the Doctor opens the door and exuberantly shouts, "Give me the loving!"

We then get some fleeting moments from "The Church on Ruby Road", recalling when Ruby first met the Doctor and entered the TARDIS before two embarked on new adventures throughout time and space. As snippets of "Changes" by David Bowie begin to play, we see the Doctor in Regency Era garb standing next to a hologram of one of his previous incarnations, the Tenth Doctor, played by David Tennant.

The Doctor and Ruby stop off in the prehistoric past, where we see them gazing down at dinosaurs. Ruby asks the Doctor, "What if I change history by stepping on a butterfly?"

"Well, that's not gonna happen, is it?" he replies.

The next thing we see, Ruby does indeed step on a monarch butterfly and suddenly transforms into a sort of butterfly version of herself. "What's wrong?" she asks, unaware of what just happened. The Doctor gulps awkwardly.

The Doctor then says in a voiceover, "With all my adventures, I've never seen anything like this before." We see a new space station, followed by three Regency Era women, including Indira Varma as a new character called the Duchess, turning into bird-like aliens.

In another scene from the Regency Era episode, the Doctor and Ruby attended a formal gathering, with Ruby exclaiming, "Oh, my Bridgerton...This place is completely mad."

More fleeting images follow of an old woman screaming, Jinkx Monsoon's musical villain, and Ruby firing a BFG. We hear a voiceover from UNIT's Kate Stewart (Jemma Redgrave) saying, "Things seem to be turning more and more supernatural" as we see a face and hands trying to claw out of a circular sheet of stretchable rubber or plastic.

We then see a glass shatter atop a newspaper with the headline "KHRUSHCHEV THREATENS FINLAND", a reference to the Note Crisis from 1961. The Doctor and Ruby are then startled by something, which causes Ruby to ask, "Is that a monster?"

The Doctor replies, "No, don't be silly, there's no such things as monsters, it's just creatures you haven't met yet." As the creatures roar, the two shriek and begin running in the opposite direction.

Next, we see a dust cloud, possibly from an explosion, fill a downtown city street, followed by the Doctor, Kate and Rose Noble (Yasmin Finney) entering a vaulted room at UNIT headquarters. The Doctor says in a voiceover, "There are powers beyond the universe so vast...the whole world could slide into the pit."

We see the Doctor screaming in rage out into space from opened TARDIS doors and a clock striking midnight, followed by the TARDIS console erupting in sparks and a completely devastated London while the Doctor and Ruby are in 1960s attire. The Doctor tries to comfort Ruby, who is crying at the sight. "This is what we're trying to stop," adds the Doctor.

We cut to a shot of Ruby's mom, Carla Sunday (Michelle Greenidge), hugging Ruby as she tells the Doctor in a voiceover, "I'm still her mom. I need to know she'll be okay. You'll keep her safe?" This is followed by a glimpse of Ruby in '60s attire wrapped around in musical notes.

The Doctor takes Carla's hand and replies reassuringly, "I will keep her safe, I promise."

Next, we glimpse the Doctor turning on a light underneath a set of old and dusty stairs as Ruby tries to shield her eyes from the glare. Ruby begins in a voiceover, "It's taken me all this time--"

Suddenly, we cut to fleeting images of Ruby in various points during her life.

"-- to realize what I'm meant to do," she finishes. "I'm going to save the world!"

The Doctor remarks in another voiceover, "Everything is possible," followed by a quick shot of several 1960s girls holding umbrellas and dancing as water pours down inside the hallway of a building.

"Everything is possible," he reiterates as we see an abandoned-looking TARDIS covered in dirt and flora atop a cliffside. This is followed by closing images of the Doctor and former companion Melanie Bush (Bonnie Langford) wearing helmets while on Mel's motorbike, and the Doctor, in '60s attire, winking at the camera.

THE PENGUIN Teaser Trailer Features Colin Farrell's Return as Oswald "Oz" Cobblepot

One of Batman's biggest enemies wants to be remembered in Gotham City.

The Max streaming service has released the first teaser trailer for The Penguin, the upcoming crime drama TV series with Colin Farrell reprising his role as DC Comics supervillain The Penguin/Oswald "Oz" Cobblepot from Matt Reeves' 2022 film The Batman.

In addition to Farrell, The Penguin stars Cristin Milioti as Sofia FalconeClancy Brown as Salvatore Maroni, Michael Zegen as Alberto Falcone, Michael Kelly as Johnny Vitti, and Rhenzy Feliz as Victor Aguilar.

The 90-second teaser opens at night in Gotham with the Penguin sitting and talking to someone off-camera. "When I was a kid," he begins, "there was a gangster, a real old-school type -- Rex Calabrese. He was a big deal. He helped people. If he saw you on the street, he'd call out to you..."

As we see a car pull up, the Penguin retrieves a sledgehammer from the trunk. "When I'm fourteen or somethin'," he continues, "he has a heart attack and dies...still holdin' a cigar. In my neighborhood, they throw a parade in his honor. A friggin' parade..."

We then see the Penguin limping up the stairs, his right leg in a metal brace. He continues, "...and it wasn't fancy, but it was the gesture. The show of love of what he meant."

The Penguin then uses a lighter to start a fire, then pulls out a switchblade and stabs someone. We also see him pull someone holding a gun through the driver-side window of his car, followed by a glimpse of Sofia Falcone, the Penguin smoking a cigar, and the Penguin sitting across Salvatore Maroni inside prison. More fleeting glimpses follow, including the Penguin being threatened with a knife, various gunfire, and Sofia screaming.

"Can you imagine," says the Penguin as the trailer ends, "to be remembered like that?"

Live-Action TEEN TITANS Film in Development at DC Studios

Titans together...on the big screen!

The Hollywood Reporter has word that DC Studios is developing a live-action film based on DC Comics superteam the Teen Titans, with Ana Nogueira tasked with writing the screenplay.

Nogueira, 38, is an actress and playwright best known as Penny Ares on The Vampire Diaries TV series, and has appeared on episodes of The Blacklist, The Michael J. Fox Show, and Hightown. Currently, she's also working on the script for another DC film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow starring Milly Alcock as Supergirl/Kara Zor-El.

Created in 1964 by Bob Haney and Bruno Premiani, the Teen Titans first appeared in The Brave and the Bold (vol.1) #54, where Robin (Dick Grayson), Kid Flash (Wally West) and Aqualad (Garth) teamed up to defeat a weather-controlling villain known as Mister Twister. They appeared under the name "Teen Titans" in The Brave and the Bold #60 and were joined by Wonder Woman's younger sister Wonder Girl (Donna Troy). After being featured in Showcase #59, the Teen Titans were spun off into their own series with Teen Titans (vol.1) #1 by Haney and artist Nick Cardy. Green Arrow's sidekick Speedy (Roy Harper) made guest appearances before officially joining the team in Teen Titans #19.

After running 43 issues, the series was cancelled in 1973, but was brought back in 1976 with additional team members, including African-American superheroes Guardian/Hornblower (Mal Duncan) and Bumblebee (Karen Beecher), along with former supervillain-turned-superhero Harlequin (Duela Dent). The revival was short-lived, however, and the series ended in 1978 with issue #53.

In 1980, writer Marv Wolfman and artist George Pérez created a new incarnation of the team, the New Teen Titans, which debuted in DC Comics Presents #26 before getting their own series. Original members Robin, Wonder Girl and Kid Flash were joined by Beast Boy (Gar Logan), now called Changeling, and new superheroes Cyborg (Victor Stone), Raven (Rachel Roth) and Starfire (Koriand'r). Brought together by Raven to help defeat Raven's demonic father, Trigon, this version of the Teen Titans became the most popular incarnation of the team to date and a rival to Marvel's most popular superteam, the X-Men.

The New Teen Titans (vol.1) introduced other notable adversaries, including Deathstroke the Terminator, Brother Blood, and Blackfire, and featured classic stories such as "A Day in the Lives", "Runaways", and "Who Is Donna Troy?". In 1984, the series was relaunched as a second volume, while the original series became Tales of the Teen Titans. Before ending original stories with #58, Tales of the Teen Titans featured additional classic stories "The Judas Contract", which featured Robin adopting the new identity of Nightwing, and "We Are Gathered Here Today...", which told the story of Donna Troy's wedding.

After various incarnations of the Titans over the decades, the seven members of the New Teen Titans are once again the current version of the team in Titans (vol.4), now written by Tom Taylor and drawn by incoming artist Lucas Meyer. Following the events of the Dark Crisis event series and during Taylor's run on Nightwing (vol.4), Superman approached Nightwing with the proposition that he serve as the leader of the new superhero team, after the Justice League disbanded. This led to Nightwing unveiling a new Titans Tower in Bludhaven, with his friends from the New Teen Titans era, only now no longer teenagers.

"No, Doctor. Look, I'm telling you this, we're finished. You're just too callous for me. Anything goes by the board, anything at all."
"That's just not true, Jamie. I've never held that the end justifies the means."
"Ach, words. What do I care about words? You don't give that much for a living soul except yourself."
"I care about life. I care about human beings. Do you think I let you go through that Dalek test lightly?"

SUPERMAN (2025) Casts Wendell Pierce as Perry White

Great Caesar's Ghost! Don't call him Chief!

Deadline is reporting that James Gunn's upcoming 2025 film Superman, formerly known as Superman: Legacy, has cast Wendell Pierce as Daily Planet editor-in-chief Perry White, best known to DC Comics fans as Clark Kent's boss.

Pierce joins David Corenswet as Superman/Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific/Michael Holt, Terence Rosemore as Otis, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho/Rex Mason, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl/Kendra Saunders, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern/Guy Gardner, María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer/Angela Spica, Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord, and Milly Alcock as Supergirl/Kara Zor-El.

Pierce, 60, is probably best known as Detective William "Bunk" Moreland on the HBO drama The Wire and has appeared in the films Malcolm X, Hackers, Waiting to Exhale, Ray, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2, and Selma. His other TV appearances include episodes of Law & Order, Treme, Suits, Ray Donovan, Archer, Jack Ryan, and Elsbeth.

Created in 1940 by George Putnam Ludlam (radio), followed by Jerry Siegel and Wayne Boring (comics), Perry White first appeared in "Clark Kent, Reporter," an episode of The Adventures of Superman radio series before being introduced in comics later that same year in Superman (vol.1) #7.

The earliest Superman comics depict Clark Kent and Lois Lane working for the newspaper the Daily Star, under an editor named George Taylor. However, after Perry White's introduction in The Adventures of Superman radio series, the character was incorporated into the comic books, appearing as the editor of a newly renamed the Daily Planet. No in-story explanation for this change was given at the time, and neither George Taylor nor the Daily Star were mentioned again for many years.

Prior to the sweeping continuity changes detailed in Crisis on Infinite Earths, Perry White was depicted as having been a freelance reporter for various newspapers, including a Chicago newspaper and Gotham City's Gotham GazetteWhite eventually went to work at the Daily Planet as a reporter, and earned his first Pulitzer Prize by being the first to write about Superboy's extraterrestrial origins, thanks to an exclusive interview with the Boy of Steel. Finally, during Clark Kent's junior year of college, Perry was promoted to editor-in-chief of the newspaper, after the retirement of the paper's previous editor, George Taylor.

After Crisis, Perry White was recreated by John Byrne as being born in Metropolis' Suicide Slum area, growing up with his father missing in action in an overseas war. White went to school with Lex Luthor while they were children (Luthor was also born in Suicide Slum) and became a copy boy at the Daily Planet, beginning a lifetime career that took him up the newspaper's ladder.

After Luthor became a successful businessman, he began diversifying his holdings of his newly-founded LexCorp company, which included buying the Daily Planet. Turning down an offer from Luthor to become part of Luthor's new television station WLEX, White found an investor who saved the Daily Planet, on the condition that Perry was promoted from reporter to managing editor. The entire episode, including being forced out of his active reporting career, left White bitter and angry with Luthor.

White married Alice Spencer and had a son, Jerry White. Much later, after Jerry was fully grown, Perry learned that Luthor was Jerry's biological father. Luthor seduced and impregnated Alice while Perry was overseas reporting on a war and thought to have been killed.

In recent Superman comics, Lex Luthor used Manchester Black to erase all public knowledge of Superman's secret identity. Perry became the first to demonstrate what will happen if anyone is reminded of this secret, with Black's telepathic command nearly causing Perry to have a seizure. His brain can no longer accept the idea that Superman and Clark Kent are the same person.

Pierce will be the fifth actor to portray Perry White on film, after Pierre Watkin in the Superman (1948) and Atom Man vs. Superman movie serials, Jackie Cooper in the four Superman films starring Christopher Reeve, Frank Langella in Superman Returns, and Laurence Fishburne in the films Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Superman (2025) is expected to arrive in theaters on July 11, 2025.
