"A being the Time Lords couldn't handle?"
"Oh, there are lots of them. Time Lords generally aren't very good at handling things, especially themselves. I just...the exception to the rule."
-- Peri Brown and the Sixth Doctor, Doctor Who: "The Nightmare Fair"
Hello again, everyone! My partner in time Jesse Jackson and I are back with a new episode of Next Stop Everywhere: The Doctor Who Podcast! This time, we discuss "The Nightmare Fair", the first audio drama from Series One of Big Finish Productions' Doctor Who: The Lost Stories range released in 2009, featuring Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor, Nicola Bryant as Peri Brown, and David Bailie as the Toymaker!
In this episode, Jesse and I discuss things like the two of us waiting to see what happens to our teams in the NFL playoffs, Jesse rocking the brand-new Next Stop Everywhere t-shirt, our schedule for the first third of 2024, TeePublic having a terrible search field, writer Graham Williams' TV writing pseudonym "David Agnew", Colin Baker and Nicola Bryant giving credit to Big Finish for making the Sixth Doctor more popular, David Bailie as Cotton in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, "The Nightmare Fair" originally being written as the first serial of the original Season 23 that was axed by BBC Controller Michael Grade, the horrible benefit song "Doctor in Distress" to bring Doctor Who back to TV, the ending of "Revelation of the Daleks" being badly edited to remove the reference to Blackpool to set up "The Nightmare Fair", original plans for Michael Gough to reprise the Toymaker in the TV version of "The Nightmare Fair", Peri wondering why the Doctor wants to go to an amusement park, Jesse's thoughts on David Bailie's Toymaker after seeing "The Giggle", Peri finally screaming with an actual purpose, my wondering why Peri (as an American) would call cotton candy "candy floss", the Doctor feeling bad for Shardlow, my watching wrestling in the '80s, wishing SB had appeared in Part 1, Kevin annoying the Doctor by constantly talking about broccoli, the Toymaker loving humans because they love games, video arcade games being popular in the '80s, the hints of the Toymaker's secret origin, our favorite quotes of the episode, new feedback from Holly Mac and Sandi from Oregon, Xan Sprouse and I watching Scrooged weeks after Christmas, Neil Gaiman writing "Nightmare in Silver", and more!
