Fans of the original Star Trek series should find these new cast members...fascinating.
As part of Star Trek Day 2021, celebrating the 55th anniversary of the premiere of Star Trek: The Original Series, the upcoming Paramount+ series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds made a big splash during the show's panel segment by announcing the main cast joining stars Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike, Rebecca Romijn as Commander Una Chin-Riley/Number One, and Ethan Peck as Lieutenant Spock.
Here's the rundown of the additional cast:
Celia Rose Gooding as Cadet Nyota Uhura -- Gooding, 21, will be the third actress to portray Nyota Uhura, after Nichelle Nichols in Star Trek: The Original Series, Star Trek: The Animated Series and the films Star Trek I through VI, and Zoe Saldana in the films Star Trek (2009), Star Trek Into Darkness, and Star Trek Beyond.Jess Bush as Nurse Christine Chapel -- Bush, 31, will be the second actress to portray Christine Chapel, after Majel Barrett in Star Trek: The Original Series, Star Trek: The Animated Series and the films Star Trek: The Motion Picture and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.
Christina Chong as La'An Noonien-Singh -- Chong, 32, is playing a new character who may be a descendant of Star Trek villain Khan Noonien Singh. She is an English actress who previously played Lorna Bucket in the Doctor Who episode "A Good Man Goes to War".
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is expected to debut on Paramount+ sometime in 2022.
While a "Star Trek" musical might seem like a peculiar concept, the franchise's dedicated fan base and rich lore could potentially make for an entertaining and engaging theatrical experience.
