"Don't forget me."
"Oh, Sarah. Don't you forget me."
"Bye, Doctor. You know, travel really does broaden the mind."
"Yes. Until we meet again, Sarah."
-- Sarah Jane Smith and the Fourth Doctor, Doctor Who: "The Hand of Fear"
Hello again, everyone! I'm back with a new episode of Next Stop Everywhere: The Doctor Who Podcast! This time, I'm joined by special guest companion Dave Proctor to discuss "The Hand of Fear", the second serial from Doctor Who Season 14 in 1976, featuring Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor, Judith Paris & Stephen Thorne as Eldrad, and the departure of Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith!
In this episode, Dave and I discuss things like Dave seeing his first musical concert since the pandemic began, my discussing Black Widow on DJ Nik's Happiness in Darkness podcast, Sarah Jane leaving in a simple way, modern fans having to defend their era in thirty years like classic era fans do with modern era fans, Superman III being my least-favorite Superman movie, original plans to kill off Sarah Jane in a story called "The Lost Legion", Elisabeth Sladen asking that Sarah Jane's departure not being the main focus of the story, the original script featuring an aging Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart who would be moved from UNIT to the Extraterrestrial Xenological Intelligence Taskforce (EXIT) and then killed off, Eldrad's home planet being changed from Omega to Kastria, Elisabeth Sladen miming whistling in her final scene, Elisabeth Sladen being so likeable and relatable, which Doctors Sarah Jane wouldn't get along with, the TARDIS finally landing in an actual quarry intentionally, the Fourth Doctor showing his affection for Sarah Jane, wondering why Sarah Jane couldn't wash her hair and take a bath inside the TARDIS, the old-school TV sets used as TARDIS control room monitors, the female Eldrad's superb costume, that awkward moment when the female Eldrad gets impaled through the chest right after returning to Kastria, the possessed Dr. Carter trying to kill the Doctor only to fall to his death, Professor Watson calling his family at home because he thinks he's going to die, King Rokon trolling the male Eldrad as the King of Nothing, Sarah Jane liking the female Eldrad but hating the male Eldrad, our favorite quotes of the episode, my Reverse the Reverse the Polarity segment, new feedback from Holly Mac, DJ Nik joining Xan Sprouse and me on the upcoming 100th episode of Ghostwood: The Twin Peaks Podcast, Holly Mac coming back to discuss "Asylum of the Daleks", my hoping everyone shares my Doctor Who enthusiasm, and more!
