Yeah, crowbars traditionally don't mean good things for Jason Todd.
HBO Max has released the first teaser trailer for the upcoming third season of Titans, based on the DC Comics superteam, which features the focus shifting to Gotham City and hints of story elements from the classic Batman storyline "A Death in the Family".
According to HBO Max, the Titans will be drawn to Gotham City, where they will reunite with old friends and face new threats. The first three episodes of Season 3 will premiere on Thursday, August 12th, with subsequent episodes launching weekly every Thursday through October 21st.
The 45-second teaser trailer opens with the second Robin, Jason Todd (Curran Walters), using bolt cutters to gain access to a gated abandoned amusement park. Robin comes across a dead security guard tied to a support beam, with his face distorted by what presumably is Joker Venom. Suddenly, an old carnival booth emits a laughing sound, causing Robin to spin around and be shocked by...something.
In another scene, we see Nightwing (Brenton Thwaites) watching a group of Gotham City police officers under a bridge aiming their weapons at something off screen. "This is Gotham..." Nightwing begins in a voiceover.
We then see a fleeting image of a posing group of Titans including Beast Boy (Ryan Potter), Superboy (Joshua Orpin), Krypto the Superdog, Nightwing, and Starfire (Anna Diop), who finally has an actual costume. This is followed by further quick images of Hank Hall (Alan Ritchson), Dove (Minka Kelly), and an injector holding a strange green compound that causes a reaction in someone's eye.
"...This city breeds a special class of criminal..." continues the Nightwing voiceover as we see a silhouetted figure (presumably the Joker) beating someone to death (presumably Robin) with a crowbar at the abandoned amusement park.
More fleeting images follow, including Dr. Jonathan Crane (Vincent Kartheiser) in his cell at Arkham Asylum, the Red Hood (Walters again), and Bruce Wayne (Iain Glen).
"...People die here..." continues the Nightwing voiceover as we slowly pan to that same crowbar now resting on a wooden floor while a blurred figure in the background notices it.
The trailer music intensifies as more fleeting images follow, including Jason Todd crying while talking to someone on a cell phone, a bloodied blade, Hank in bed, someone dropping pills into a small plastic container, Beast Boy again, a bunch of criminals firing their weapons at someone above, Starfire glowing with power, Superboy in a burning building, and Nightwing fighting some masked goons.
"...People like us," concludes the Nightwing voiceover ominously.
