TITANS Casts Iain Glen as an Older Bruce Wayne
It's not the years, it's the mileage.
Deadline has revealed that the DC Universe series Titans has cast Iain Glen as an older Bruce Wayne, better known to DC Comics fans as Batman. The role will be recurring during the show's upcoming second season.
According to the article, this version of Bruce Wayne is described as "After decades of fighting crime as Batman, billionaire Bruce Wayne is just as driven to protect Gotham from evil as he was in his prime. Needing to reconcile his relationship with Dick Grayson, the duo hope to forge a new dynamic as Bruce tries to help his former sidekick and the Titans achieve success."
Bruce Wayne was shown during Titans Season One, but only in shadows and blurred background cameos during flashback scenes. Bruce appeared as a nightmare version of Batman in the Season One finale, "Dick Grayson", with Alain Moussi and Maxim Savaria both sharing the role as stunt doubles.
Glen, 57, is best known as Ser Jorah Mormont on the HBO series Game of Thrones, and as Father Octavian in the Doctor Who episodes "The Time of Angels" and "Flesh and Stone". His films include various Resident Evil movies, Kingdom of Heaven, The Iron Lady, Gorillas in the Mist, Kick-Ass 2, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, and My Cousin Rachel. His other television appearances include episodes of Downton Abbey, Cleverman, Ripper Street, Law & Order: UK, and Spooks.
Glen will be the oldest actor to portray Bruce Wayne/Batman in live-action, after Adam West, who played the character in the two Legends of the Superheroes TV specials at 50; Ben Affleck, who last appeared in the movie Justice League while he was 44; and Michael Keaton, who last played the character in the movie Batman Returns at 40.
Titans is expected to return to DC Universe for Season 2 sometime in Fall 2019.
