"Oh, my God -- You actually want to investigate that spooky old cinema? You're...Scooby-Doo."
"Honey, I'm Velma."
-- Belinda Chandra and the Fifteenth Doctor, Doctor Who: "Lux"
Hello again, everyone! My partner in time Jesse Jackson and I are back for another new episode of Next Stop Everywhere: The Doctor Who Podcast! This time, we're joined by special guest Holly Mac as we discuss "Lux", the second episode from Doctor Who Series 15, featuring Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor, Varada Sethu as Belinda Chandra, Linus Roache as Reginald Pye, and Alan Cumming as the voice of Mr. Ring-a-Ding!
In this episode, Jesse, Holly and I discuss things like Jesse and Holly enjoying my Titans story for DC Comics' Lex and the City anthology, our rundown of upcoming Doctor Who books and video releases, Holly's thoughts on the new season so far, Alan Cumming in "The Witchfinders", Linus Roache as Thomas Wayne in Batman Begins, "Old Forms" being an interesting anagram for "Mrs. Flood", writer Russell T Davies finally being able to do an episode featuring a living cartoon with Disney money, the Doctor Who fans apparel references, the concept of Doctor Who existing within its own universe being previously explored in "Remembrance of the Daleks", Chuck Berry's "Roll Over Beethoven" not being released until 1956, the Rock Hudson movie The Harvest Bringer not actually existing, the cartoon versions of the Doctor and Belinda making themselves sad to become three-dimensional, the Doctor and Belinda realizing they can literally break the fourth wall, Belinda starting to trust the Doctor more, Mrs. Lowenstein's son looking way older than sixteen, Reginald Pye trying to keep Mr. Ring-a-Ding in check, Reginald's sacrifice to rejoin his wife, Belinda's encounter with 1950s segregation, Russell T Davies's very meta tribute to Whovians, the reference to Sam Rockwell's character in Galaxy Quest, the Whovians rating the episode they were just in, wanting the Whovians to do a commentary track on the Series 15 blu-ray set, the classic Looney Tunes cartoon Duck Amuck, my wishing RTD had titled the episode "Who Framed Doctor Who?" instead, wondering who is big enough to justify the Mrs. Flood reveal, our mounting frustration with the Mrs. Flood teases, Mrs. Flood saying May 24th is the end of Doctor Who as a show even though there's an episode on May 31st, our favorite quotes of the episode, Whizz Kid from "The Greatest Show in the Galaxy", new listener feedback from Dave Proctor and Sandi from Oregon, looking forward to the creepiness of "The Well", and more!
