"Ohhh, no! You're not thinking of what I think you're thinking of, are you?"
"That, I think, Jamie, depends upon what you think I am thinking."
-- Jamie McCrimmon and the Second Doctor, Doctor Who: "The Dominators"
Hello again, everyone! My partner in time Jesse Jackson and I are back with a new episode of Next Stop Everywhere: The Doctor Who Podcast! This time, we discuss "The Dominators", the first serial from Doctor Who Season Six in 1968, featuring Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor, Frazer Hines as Jamie McCrimmon, Wendy Padbury as Zoe Heriot, and Ronald Allen as Rago!
In this episode, Jesse and I discuss things like the Cincinnati Bengals giving the Cleveland Browns another shot to win the first Ohio Super Bowl, why we're discussing "The Dominators" instead of "The Ice Warriors" as planned, adjusting the recording schedule for my Dad's 87th birthday, Patrick Troughton and Frazer Hines having figured out their rhythm, the great balance of having Jamie come from the past and Zoe from the future, Zoe being a prototype Hermione Granger, Jesse wanting to go back and discuss stories we've already discussed, Arthur Cox appearing in both the classic and modern eras, more of David Tennant in PBS' Around the World in 80 Days, "The Dominators" being cut from 6 episodes to 5 at the last minute, writers Mervyn Haisman and Henry Lincoln refusing to write for the series again, the first appearance of jelly babies on Doctor Who, the Quarks being created as an attempt to have the same merchandise potential as the Daleks, the pacifist Dulcians being a satire of 1960s hippie subculture, Patrick Troughton being absent from all of the location filming sessions, wondering if Doctor Who will ever do an episode where the TARDIS team has a decent day as planned without facing any monsters or threats, the Dominators assuming the Doctor is a human just like Jamie, the Doctor pretending to be stupid to fool the Dominators, enjoying Zoe's chemistry with the Doctor and Jamie, Zoe calling out the Dulcian's impractical fashions, Cully's side hustle of taking people to see The Island of Death, the Dulcians being aliens with bad fashion choices, Cully being a decent guy who gets crap from his father and the other Dulcians because he played pranks, the Dulcian council proving the perils of pacifism, the Doctor not being a pacifist in the purest sense, Rago being pissed at Toba for wanting to kill everyone, the Quarks having a really poor design, Toba's failed coup attempt, the best thing about the Quarks, our favorite quotes of the episode, my Reverse the Polarity segment, new feedback from Holly Mac, Holly Mac joining us for "Journey to to the Centre of the TARDIS", and more!
