"They are vampires, Adric! Do you want to become one of them?"
"You said yourself you're on the menu. If it's a choice between that and joining the diners, I mean, there's no sense in two of us getting the chop."
-- The Second Romana and Adric, Doctor Who: "State of Decay"
Hello again, everyone! Special guest companion John Takacs returns to join me for a new episode of Next Stop Everywhere: The Doctor Who Podcast! This time, we discuss "State of Decay", the fourth serial from Doctor Who Season 18 in 1980, featuring Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor, Lalla Ward as the Second Romana, Matthew Waterhouse as Adric, and John Leeson as the voice of K-9!
In this episode, John and I discuss things like Jesse Jackson needing quality time with his wife Linda, Doctor Wholoween, Jon Pertwee keeping the Bok statue from "The Daemons" and putting it in his garden, Terrance Dicks writing "The Five Doctors" Target novelization, wishing John Leeson would go back and dub his voice over David Brierley's K-9 voice, the great sets and costumes in "State of Decay", Terrance Dicks originally submitting an early version of "State of Decay" in 1977, director Peter Moffat telling John Nathan-Turner that he wouldn't direct unless they used Dicks' version of the script, the E-Space Trilogy, Colin Baker being considered for the role of Aukon, wondering how K-9 never detected Adric being a stowaway, Tom Baker and Lalla Ward having marital problems during production, Romana calling out Adric for going along with becoming a vampire, the Three Who Rule, Aukon being in charge instead of King Zargo and Queen Camilla, the reveal that the castle was actually the spaceship Hydrax, the Doctor reprogramming the Hydrax to impale the last Great Vampire, the Dark Times covering the Time Lords' war with the vampires, our favorite quotes of the episode, my Reverse the Reverse the Polarity segment, new feedback from Holly Mac and Dave Proctor, the Fourth Doctor's Season 18 scarf signifying that he's mental state is now whole, Nabil "Sil" Shaban liking John's Ohio Type 40 Facebook group, and more!
