"Well, where are we?"
"I really don't know, Victoria. Shall we go out and have a look?"
"Now? Is it safe?"
"Oh, I shouldn't think so for a moment. Jamie, I think we're going to need torches."
-- Victoria Waterfield and the Second Doctor, Doctor Who: "The Web of Fear"
Hello again, everyone! My partner in time Jesse Jackson and I are back with another new episode of Next Stop Everywhere: The Doctor Who Podcast! This time, we discuss "The Web of Fear", the fifth serial from Doctor Who Season 5 in 1968, featuring Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor, Frazer Hines as Jamie McCrimmon, Deborah Watling as Victoria Waterfield, the return of the Great Intelligence, and the first appearance of Nicholas Courtney as Colonel Alastair Lethbridge-Stewart!
In this episode, Jesse and I discuss things like "The Web of Fear" being a sort-of sequel to "The Abominable Snowmen", the missing episodes being recovered in 2013, the video for Episode 3 only existing as telesnaps, UNIT's debut in "The Invasion", Deborah Watling and her father Jack Watling, John Levene playing a Yeti, the BBC being accused of illegally filming in the London Underground, picking up from the cliffhanger at the end of "The Enemy of the World", Victoria spending most of the story in an interrogation room, the Doctor getting pissed off at Jamie for ruining his plan to absorb the Great Intelligence, the Lost in Time DVD releases of incomplete Doctor Who stories, our love of the Second Doctor and Jamie, Zoe being a better companion than Victoria, Anne Travers not being a delicate wallflower, the Doctor meeting Col. Lethbridge-Stewart for the first time, Lethbridge-Stewart being surprisingly receptive of the Doctor having a machine that travels in time and space, the Yetis not being the best or worst Doctor Who monsters, the classic game Mouse Trap, Staff Sgt. Arnold getting taken over by the Great Intelligence, the Second Doctor playing the Outlander theme on his recorder to Jamie, our favorite quotes of the episode, my Reverse the Reverse the Polarity segment, Ingrid Oliver reprising her role as Petronella Osgood for "The Zygon Isolation", the Doctor Who: Time Lord Victorious multi-platform event, new feedback from Holly Mac and David K. Proctor, Doom Patrol Season 2 being announced, and more!
