"Sir, we don't know what the situation is here!"
"The situation, Lavel, is normal, and it doesn't get much worse than that. You know, I'm rather enjoying this."
-- Flight Lieutenant Lavel and Brigadier Alastair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart, Doctor Who: "Battlefield"
Hello again, everyone! I'm back with a new episode of Next Stop Everywhere: The Doctor Who Podcast, as one our favorite emailers, Holly Mac, levels up as our newest Special Guest Companion to discuss "Battlefield", the first serial from Doctor Who Season 26 in 1989, starring Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor, Sophie Aldred as Ace, Nicholas Courtney as the Brigadier, and Jean Marsh as Morgaine!
In this episode, Holly and I discuss things like how Holly became a Doctor Who fan, why she wanted to discuss "Battlefield", The Brigadier almost being killed off in "Battlefield", former First Doctor companion actress Jean Marsh returning to Doctor Who, the story of how Sylvester McCoy saved Sophie Aldred from serious harm during the water tank sequence, why the TARDIS console room in "Battlefield" is so dark, the Doctor being the only one who could bring The Brigadier out of retirement, wanting the Brigadier to meet the Seventh Doctor at least one episode sooner, the Brigadier being very progressive and accepting with female UNIT officers, everyone thinking the Seventh Doctor is Merlin, Ace and Shou Yuing geeking out over explosives and being bad influences on one another, Bessie's Back to the Future nod, wondering how the hell Brigadier Bambera hooked up with Ancelyn, Ancelyn not knowing how to drive, Doris taking Bessie and going shopping with Ace and the others, Morgaine and The Brigadier having a chat and agreeing to kill one another later on the battlefield, Mordred needing to take it down a notch when he laughs, the impressive (for 1989) design of the Destroyer, wondering why Morgaine and the Destroyer never busted out of UNIT prison, our favorite quotes of the story, my Reverse the Reverse the Polarity segment, new listener feedback from Paul from Australia, Holly on The Five(ish) Fangirls Podcast, and more!
