DRUNK CINEMA 104: "Sinners" Is Up!

"You know something? Maybe once a week, I wake up paralyzed reliving that night. But before the sun went down, I think that was the best day of my life. Was it like that for you?"
"No doubt about it. Last time I seen my brother. Last time I seen the sun. And just for a few hours, we was free."
-- Old Sammie Moore and Elias "Stack" Moore, Sinners

Hello again, movie fans!  My wonderful co-host Xan Sprouse and I are back with a new episode of Drunk Cinema! This time, Xan and I watch Sinners, the 2025 horror film written and directed by Ryan Coogler, featuring Michael B. Jordan as Eljiah "Smoke" Moore and Elias "Stack" Moore, Hailee Steinfeld as Mary, Miles Caton as Sammie Moore, and Jack O'Connell as Remmick!

This time, Xan and I discuss things like Xan getting her husband Chris to grill her a cheese, Chris getting both his flu and COVID shot on the same day, Ryan Coogler's revival of The X-Files getting picked up by Hulu, Sinners showing there's more to vampires than Dracula, Michael B. Jordan as the Human Torch in the horrible Fantastic Four (2015), Hailee Steinfeld in the superb remake of True Grit from 2010, blues legend Buddy Guy as Old Sammie, Wumni Mosaku as Ruby Baptiste in Lovecraft Country, Delroy Lindo in Romeo Must Die, Sinners getting 16 Oscar nominations but only winning four, why you should mix Antivert with alcohol, exploitation of Black workers not stopping after the Civil War, giving yourself room to negotiate down, women fashion designers not designing pockets on dresses, Xan and I not being able to talk about sawmills without bringing up Twin Peaks, my issue with the sequence of summoning spirits of performers from the past and future, how vampires know when to stop feeding on their victims, leather sleeves being cool, Smoke mowing down a bunch of Ku Klux Klan guys with a tommy gun, 1992 Stack looking like he just walked off the set of A Different World, new Drunk Mail from Jesse Jackson, my upcoming story for DC's Naughty List Christmas anthology, Christine Peruski returning to the Drunk Cinema Theater, and more!
