"Who are you, then? Who's that lot down there? I said, who are they?!"
"They're made of plastic. Living plastic creatures. They're being controlled by a relay device on the roof. Which would be a great big problem if...I didn't have this. So, I'm gonna go upstairs and blow it up. And I might well die in the process. But don't worry about me, no, you go home, go on! Go and have your lovely beans on toast. Don't tell anyone about this, 'cos if you do, you'll get them killed. I'm the Doctor, by the way. What's your name?"
"Rose."
"Nice to meet you, Rose. Run for your life!"
-- Rose Tyler and the Ninth Doctor, Doctor Who: "Rose"
Hello again, everyone! My partner in time Jesse Jackson and I are back with a new episode of Next Stop Everywhere: The Doctor Who Podcast! This time, we're joined by special guest companion Xan Sprouse as we provide our commentary track for "Rose", the first episode from Doctor Who Series One in 2005, featuring the return of the Autons, along with the introduction of Christopher Eccleston as the Ninth Doctor and Billie Piper as Rose Tyler!
In this episode, Jesse, Xan and I discuss things like being less than one week away from brand-new Doctor Who, Xan and Jesse talking with Maureen Van Zandt, originally discussing "Rose" over six years ago in Episode 021, Xan being a jerk cynic about Doctor Who's return in 2005, the original plans to make Richard E. Grant the Ninth Doctor starting with "Scream of the Shalka", Xan getting into Modern Who with "Dalek", Jesse getting into Modern Who, some Series 13 news, Matt Smith appearing in Last Night in Soho, Xan getting me a bag of jelly babies as part of my belated birthday gift, Xan being terrified by my Auton action figures, the scene that sold me that Modern Who could work, "Rose" being made to appeal to both old and new Doctor Who fans, the long tracking shot of the Doctor and Rose walking through the Powell Estate, Christopher Eccleston sharing details of his eating disorder, Clive's wife thinking women couldn't be into Clive's obsession, Xan burning the cap for a salt grinder on her stove, why Mickey wasn't killed by the Autons, the homage to "Spearhead from Space", Rose abruptly kicking Mickey to the curb to travel with the Doctor, when BBC America started syncing up US Doctor Who episodes with the UK, the internet leak of "Rose" before it aired in the UK, "Rose" being a great introduction to people who know absolutely nothing of Doctor Who, new feedback from Holly Mac and Dave Proctor, Jesse and I opening up our new episode reviews for people to join us, and more!
