"Here's a toast, a Happy Christmas to all of us."
"The same to you, Doctor...Sara."
"And incidentally, a Happy Christmas to all of you at home!"
-- The First Doctor and Steven Taylor, Doctor Who: "The Daleks' Master Plan" Episode 7: "The Feast of Steven"
Hello again, everyone! My partner in time Jesse Jackson and I are back with another new episode of Next Stop Everywhere: The Doctor Who Podcast! This time, we discuss Episodes 5 through 8 of "The Daleks' Master Plan", the fourth serial of Doctor Who Season 3 from 1965-66, featuring William Hartnell as the First Doctor, Peter Purves as Steven Taylor, Jean Marsh as Sara Kingdom, and the return of Peter Butterworth as The Monk!
In this episode, Jesse and I discuss things like Jesse and I trying to be cool, Jesse struggling with only the surviving audio, Peter Butterworth in Robin & Marian, Roy Evans appearing in David Lynch's The Elephant Man, Episode 5 ("Counter Plot" being recovered in 1983 from the basement of a Mormon church in South London, Sara Kingdom originally being conceived as Bret Vyon's lover instead of his sister, the idea of a planet with invisible monsters being Terry Nation's leftover idea from "The Chase", the Doctor Who production team being contacted by Stanley Kubrick's crew working on 2001: A Space Odyssey, William Hartnell breaking character and the fourth wall to wish viewers a Happy Christmas, the First Doctor mistaking the Man in Mackintosh for the actor's previous character Ben Daheer in "The Crusade", the Doctor not explaining to Steven how his ring opened the locked TARDIS door, my finally getting to see Episode 5 when the Doctor Who: Lost in Time DVD set was released, Sara's attitude changing after her experiences with the Doctor and Steven, Steven almost frying his brain to help the Doctor create fake taranium, "The Feast of Steven" being a comedic interlude and Doctor Who's first Christmas special, Jesse wanting to see a modern version of "The Feast of Steven", the unexpected return of the Monk after the events of "The Time Meddler", the Doctor outwitting the Monk, Trantis getting taken off the board and Mavic Chen surviving another day, the TARDIS materializing in the middle of a cricket match and no one batting an eye, that awkward moment when the Daleks use the fake taranium and it doesn't work, our favorite quotes of the episode, my Reverse the Reverse the Polarity segment, new listener feedback from Holly Mac, wrapping up "The Daleks' Master Plan" in our next episode, my annoying Jesse with a live Team USA World Cup score update, and more!
