BABYLON 5 Reboot in Development for The CW from J. Michael Straczynski

 
And so, it begins...again.

Deadline is reporting that The CW is developing a "from-the-ground-up" reboot of '90s science fiction TV series Babylon 5, once again produced by series creator and writer J. Michael Straczynski.

According to the article, the reboot will be written by Straczynski and "revolves around John Sheridan (played by Bruce Boxleitner in the original series), an Earthforce officer with a mysterious background, who is assigned to Babylon 5, a five-mile-long space station in neutral space, a port of call for travelers, smugglers, corporate explorers and alien diplomats at a time of uneasy peace and the constant threat of war. His arrival triggers a destiny beyond anything he could have imagined, as an exploratory Earth company accidentally triggers a conflict with a civilization a million years ahead of us, putting Sheridan and the rest of the B5 crew in the line of fire as the last, best hope for the survival of the human race."

Set across the years 2257 through 2262, Babylon 5 debuted in syndication on February 22, 1993 with "The Gathering", a pilot movie, before the full series began on January 26, 1994. The series ran for five seasons across 110 episodes until November 25, 1998, with each season taking place over a single year. It also spawned five TV movies, a direct-to-DVD production called Babylon 5: The Lost Tales, and the spinoff series Crusade.

The series depicted a future where Earth has a unified Earth government and has gained the technology for faster-than-light travel using "jump gates", a kind of wormhole technology allowing transport through the alternate dimension of hyperspace. The Colonies within the solar system and beyond, make up the Earth Alliance, which has established contact with other spacefaring species. Ten years before the series is set, Earth barely escaped destruction by the technologically superior Minbari, who sought revenge after an Earth starship unwittingly killed their leader during first contact, only for them to unexpectedly surrender on the brink of victory. Earth has since established peaceful relationships with them and the Earth Alliance has become a significant and generally respected power within the galactic community.

The other species include the imperialist Centauri; the Narn, who only recently gained independence from the Centauri empire; and the mysterious, powerful Vorlons. Several dozen less powerful species from the League of Non-Aligned Worlds also have diplomatic contact with the major races, including the Drazi, Brakiri, Vree, Markab, and Pak'ma'ra. An ancient and secretive race, the Shadows, unknown to humans but documented in many other races' religious texts, malevolently influence events to bring chaos and war among the known species.

First Look at Netflix's THE SANDMAN Teases Dream's Imprisonment

 
Roderick Burgess is gonna need all the help he can get. 

During Netflix's fan event Tudum, the streaming service revealed the first look at The Sandman, the TV adaptation of the classic DC Comics/VERTIGO series created and written by Neil Gaiman.

In a one-minute teaser, the footage appears to be taken from the show's pilot episode, and is based on "Sleep of the Just", the first issue of The Sandman comic book series, which was written by Gaiman and drawn by Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg.

Opening at the estate of occultist Roderick Burgess (Charles Dance), we see Burgess and his coven attempting a very important summoning ritual. "Tonight we achieve what no one has even attempted," he remarks. We will summon and imprison...Death."

As his followers repeatedly chant "Here in the darkness," Burgess begins the summoning, saying, "I give you a coin made from a stone. I give you a feather...pulled from an angel's wing. I give you the blood...from my veins. We summon you together! COME!"

Mystical energy begins to swirl, an a cloaked figure in a strange helmet emerges and falls into the arcane circle marked on the floor. We hear a voiceover from another character, who states, "Death has family -- Desire, Destiny, Despair..."

"Which one have I got?" asks Burgess as we see him bend down to remove the helmet.

"Dream," replies the other character.  We now see Dream/Morpheus (Tom Sturridge) has been imprisoned in a large glass chamber. "You're gonna need all the help you can get," he adds ominously.

Russell T Davies to Return as DOCTOR WHO Showrunner in 2023

 
In the words of the Tenth Doctor...What? What?! WHAT???!!!

The BBC has announced that former Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies will be returning as showrunner for the show's 60th anniversary in 2023 and for "series beyond". Davies will follow outgoing showrunner Chris Chibnall, whose final episode for Jodie Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor is expected sometime in Autumn 2022. BBC Studios are partnering with Bad Wolf to produce.

Davies, 58, previously served as producer and showrunner from 2005 through 2009, overseeing the relaunch of Doctor Who in 2005 with Christopher Eccleston as the Ninth Doctor, through David Tennant's era as the Tenth Doctor. He also created two popular Doctor Who spinoff series, Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures.

As writer on Doctor Who, Davies created scripts for several memorable episodes, including "Rose", "Bad Wolf/The Parting of the Ways", "The Christmas Invasion", "Army of Ghosts/Doomsday", "Smith and Jones", "Utopia/The Sound of Drums/The Last of the Time Lords", "Partners in Crime", "The Stolen Earth/Journey's End", and "The End of Time". For Torchwood, he wrote "Everything Changes", "Children of Earth: Day One, Day Three & Day Five", "The New World", and "The Blood Line". For The Sarah Jane Adventures, he wrote "Invasion of the Bane" and "Death of the Doctor".

Davies remarked, "I’m beyond excited to be back on my favorite show. But we’re time-travelling too fast, there’s a whole series of Jodie Whittaker’s brilliant Doctor for me to enjoy, with my friend and hero Chris Chibnall at the helm – I’m still a viewer for now."

"It’s monumentally exciting and fitting that Doctor Who’s 60th anniversary will see one of Britain’s screenwriting diamonds return home," said Chibnall. "Russell built the baton that is about to be handed back to him -- Doctor Who, the BBC, the screen industry in Wales, and let’s be honest everyone in the whole world, have so many reasons to be Very Excited Indeed about what lies ahead."

Piers Wenger, BBC Director of Drama, stated, "As the Thirteenth Doctor prepares to embark on new and extraordinary adventures, the winds of change are blowing…bringing with them news to delight Doctor Who fans across the globe. We are thrilled that Russell is returning to Doctor Who to build on the huge achievements of Chris and Jodie. Thank you to the two of them and the team in Cardiff for all they continue to do for the show and hello Russell, it’s wonderful to have you back."

Doctor Who Series 13 is expected to air sometime in late 2021.
