THE FANDOM ZONE 317: "Excessive Force" Is Up!

"Fuck it."
-- Matt Murdock, Daredevil: Born Again -- "Excessive Force"

Hello again, everyone! DJ Nik and I are back for another new episode of The Fandom Zone Podcast! This time, we discuss "With Interest" and "Excessive Force", the fifth and sixth episodes of Daredevil: Born Again Season 1, featuring Charlie Cox as Daredevil/Matt Murdock, Vincent D'Onofrio as The Kingpin/Wilson Fisk, Mohan Kapur as Yusuf Khan, and Hunter Doohan as Muse/Bastian Cooper!

In this episode, DJ Nik and I talk about things like my being happy that it's baseball season again, "With Interest" being a damn good filler episode, getting to see different sides of Matt Murdock, some comics background on Yusuf Khan, "With Interest" being the only episode that didn't get new scenes or footage added via reshoots, the episode being shot at the same bank used in the movie Inside Man, Daredevil being another Marvel superhero who can't get a bank loan, Matt figuring out a way to save the bank hostages without being Daredevil, hints of a Daredevil/Ms. Marvel crossover, Angie Kim being the backup hostage negotiator, Yusuf realizing that Matt is more than he appears, Matt's brutal takedown of Devlin, the Young Dubliner's celtic rock version of "The Rocky Road to Dublin", Matt trying not to laugh at Heather Glenn for wanting to interview the Punisher, "Excessive Force" sounding like a bad action movie from the '80s, Johnny Santini needing to get on with the point, some comics background on Jack Duquesne as the Swordsman, Mayor Fisk being dismissed by New York's social elite, the formation of the Anti-Vigilante Task Force, some comics background on Cole North, Angela del Toro calling out Matt to do literally anything about the kidnappings her uncle Hector Ayala was investigating before he was killed, Matt saying "Fuck it" and finally giving in to his nature of being Daredevil once again, Daredevil's first fight with Muse, Mayor Fisk finally giving in to his nature of being the Kingpin once again, our favorite quotes of the episodes, new Fandom Zone Fan Mail from Dave Proctor, Jesse Jackson and Aaron Case, having to delay our next episode a couple of days for my wedding anniversary, and more!

"What did you say your name was?"
"I told you -- The Doctor."
"Yeah, but, Doctor what?"
"Just The Doctor."
"The Doctor?"
"Hello!"
"Is that meant to be impressive?"
"Sort of, yeah."
-- Rose Tyler and the Ninth Doctor, Doctor Who: "Rose"

Hello again, everyone! My partner in time Jesse Jackson and I are back for another new episode of Next Stop Everywhere: The Doctor Who Podcast! This time, we celebrate the 20th anniversary of New Who as we regenerate our discussion of "Rose", the first episode from Doctor Who Series One in 2005, introducing Christopher Eccleston as the Ninth Doctor, Billie Piper as Rose Tyler, and Noel Clarke as Mickey Smith, and featuring the return of the Autons!

In this episode, Jesse and I discuss things like this being the third time we've discussed "Rose", recording on the actual 20th anniversary of "Rose", Jesse's memories of watching "Rose" for the first time, finally getting the new Season 2/Series 15 episode titles, the new trailers have a more serious tone than last season, the joy that seeing a new episode of Doctor Who brought to my life in 2005, my watching a bootleg version of "Rose" downloaded really slowly with a dial-up modem, Jesse's reaction to seeing Star Trek on the big screen in 1979, the anticipation of news building up to "Rose", getting used to Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper's accents, a new generation of Doctor Who fandom spreading all over the world, Mark Benton returning as Clive in Rose Tyler: The Dimension Cannon, Paul McGann being willing to return for a regeneration scene, Russell T Davies offering Shaun of the Dead director Edgar Wright the opportunity to direct "Rose", "Rose" giving a nod to the original series debuting one day after the Kennedy assassination, "Rose" being leaked early onto the internet, the BBC releasing a statement from Eccleston that wasn't an official statement, the Ninth Doctor's first word being "Run!", Star Trek nerds looking down on Doctor Who fans, the moment that hooked Jesse as a fan, wondering why Rose couldn't be bothered to notice that Mickey had obviously been replaced by an Auton, my empathy for Mickey being kicked to the curb by Rose, Rose and the Doctor needing one another, the Ninth Doctor and Rose have a more emotional connection than classic era Doctors and their companions, Jesse's first impression of Jackie Tyler, the exploration of what happens to companions' lives and the people they leave behind to travel with the Doctor, the Autons having a basic plan to help introduce the show, the classic era being unable to compete with bigger budget shows like Star Trek: The Next Generation, Russell T Davies cutting "Rose" down to the bare Doctor Who essentials to make the show accessible to people who didn't know anything about Doctor Who, our favorite quotes of the story, new listener feedback from Holly Mac, Dave Proctor, Sandi from Oregon, and Xan Sprouse, watching "Fury from the Deep" right before getting new Doctor Who to discuss, and more!

First TRON: ARES Teaser Trailer Has Programs Go Off the Grid

Ready? 'Cause there's no going back.

Disney has released the first teaser trailer for Tron: Ares, the long-awaited sequel to 1982's Tron and 2010's Tron: Legacy, directed by Joachim Rønning and starring Jared Leto as Ares, Greta Lee as Eve Kim, Evan Peters as Julian Dillinger, and returning Tron actor Jeff Bridges reprising his role of Kevin Flynn once again.

Tron: Ares follows a highly sophisticated program, Ares, who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humans' first encounter with A.I. beings.

The 90-second trailer opens at night with an overhead shot of an unknown city, showcasing the streets in a very gridlike pattern. We overhear a police dispatcher saying "Reports of a motorcyclist exceeding 120 miles per hour, last seen heading northbound."

An officer responds, "Unit 12 acknowledging Dispatch. Already in pursuit."

We cut to a freeway chase as we see two helmeted lightcycle riders trimmed in glowing red from the Grid, now in the real world, speeding and weaving around freeway traffic. As the police car pursues them, one of the lightcycle riders activates a light trail, which quickly bisects the police car straight down the middle.

Next, we overhear the voice of Ares, who remarks, "I'm looking for something. Something I do not understand."

This is followed by Eve Kim, who is standing in the middle of a street and looking up as the crowd behind her begins to turn and run after seeing something. We then get a glimpse of Gillian Anderson's unnamed character.

Suddenly, a large Recognizer from the Grid is shown moving past a skyscraper window as it begins to go after Eve, who understandably starts running away from it.

Fleeting images of the Grid follow, as we see a program trimmed in natural blue riding a red version of a jet ski along a river. Next, we see three red-trimmed airships heading toward the Grid's communication beam portal that contacts the real world.

Images of red-trimmed soldiers armed with staffs are shown as the electronic score by Nine Inch Nails kicks into overdrive. We see Arturo Castro's unnamed character, followed by one of the soldiers in red trim begin to de-rez. Fighter jets in the real world fire missiles at the Grid airships, only to be easily blocked by the airships' red light trails.

Next, we hear the voice of Kevin Flynn say "Ready?" as Ares is slowly covered in a red-trimmed suit. "'Cause there's no going back."

The last thing we see is Eve looking up at the carnage above her, including the Recognizer, which now has some damage, and the aforementioned aerial combat.

If you'd like to see the Tron: Ares teaser trailer, you can view it below thanks to the official Disney account on YouTube...

Tron: Ares is scheduled to arrive in theaters on October 10, 2025.

NEXT STOP EVERYWHERE 337: "Galaxy 4" Is Up!

"Women?"
"Yes, feminine. Uh...female."
"Oh, we have a small number of men, as many as we need. The rest we kill. They consume valuable food and fulfill no particular function."
-- Maaga and the First Doctor, Doctor Who: "Galaxy 4"

Hello again, everyone! My partner in time Jesse Jackson and I are back for another new episode of Next Stop Everywhere: The Doctor Who Podcast! This time, we discuss "Galaxy 4", the first serial from Doctor Who Season 3 in 1965, featuring William Hartnell as the First Doctor, Maureen O'Brien as Vicki Pallister, Peter Purves as Steven Taylor, and Stephanie Bidmead as Maaga!

In this episode, Jesse and I discuss things like Jesse's recurring family joke "Do the Cowboys suck or what?", finally closing on the sale of my parents' house, the original recording of "Galaxy 4" only surviving with Episode 3, Jesse's thoughts if "Galaxy 4" was worthy of being reconstructed with animation, recent animated reconstructions being done cheaply in order to make them profitable, the "Galaxy 4" animation looking like it was drawn in 1965 when the original serial was aired, Angelo Muscat as the Butler in the classic TV series The Prisoner, the Episode 4 cliffhanger setting up "Mission to the Unknown," wishing science-fiction TV shows still accepted unsolicited script submissions, writer William Emms not being happy that the male Drahvins were made female by producer Verity Lambert, the cast not being happy with the script and Hartnell being threatened if he didn't follow it, Episode 3 being discovered in 2011 after being purchased at a school fundraiser in the 1980s, Chumblie being a combination of the words "chum" and "friendly," Jesse's thoughts on the live-action footage that he watched, Steven trying to get the Doctor to go swimming, the recent "Tales of the TARDIS" short with Maureen O'Brien and Peter Purves reprising their roles as Vicki and Steven, Hartnell's Doctor softening by his third season, the First Doctor being less over-protective of Vicki than he was of Susan, the twist that the ugly Rills were the nice aliens while the prettier Drahvins were the villains, the Chumblies being another failed attempt to recreate Dalekmania, Steven being surprised that the Rills have no problem letting them go, Maaga vs. MAGA, Maaga being clearly insane, the Drahvins not needing men being very progressive for 1965, our favorite quotes of the story, new listener feedback from Holly Mac and Sandi from Oregon, trying to get Jesse back on The Fandom Zone Podcast, our next episode recording on the actual 20th Anniversary of "Rose", and more!
