DRUNK CINEMA 033: "Hellraiser (1987)" Is Up!

"The box. You opened it. We came."
-- Pinhead, Hellraiser (1987)

Hello again, movie fans!  My wonderful co-host Xan Sprouse and I are back with a new episode of Drunk Cinema! This time, we watch Hellraiserthe 1987 supernatural horror film written & directed by Clive Barker, introducing Doug Bradley as Pinhead, Ashley Laurence as Kirsty Cotton, Clare Higgins as Julia Cotton, and Andrew Robinson as Larry Cotton!

In this episode, Xan and I discuss things like the end of September, Xan's Uncle Frank sending her a Lemarchand Box, Hulu's new Hellraiser film, neither of us reading Clive Barker's novella The Hellbound Heart, why Xan sought this movie out the first time she watched it, Xan's love of Frank regenerating his body, Julia not really liking her husband Larry or his friends, Julia getting turned on by Frank's switchblade, Hellraiser having a BDSM vibe, Cinnabites vs. Cenobites, the Olympians in Clash of the Titans, the late '80s being a golden age of slasher movies, Clare Higgins as Ohila on Doctor Who, Andrew Robinson as Elim Garak on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, the stupidity of people being upset over the live-action version of Disney's The Little Mermaid, Julia getting turned on by old photos of Frank, the blood-absorbing floorboards, Julia being willing to kill people just to bring Frank back to having a body with skin, Kirsty having feathers on her wet hair, Julia always wearing a white satin blouse, Kirsty being stalked by Homeless Rasputin, Frank wearing clothes that stick to his skinless body, clutch purses being a real pain in the ass, the Cenobites being the best thing in the movie, the first Hellraiser movie being mostly about Frank and Julia, Xan wanting more crossover between horror movies and mall deliciousness, the creepy Dumpster Hobo from Mulholland Drive, Hellraiser's 35th anniversary, the original working title Sadomasochists from Beyond the Grave, Doug Bradley nearly turning down the Lead Cenobite role, Doug Bradley not being able to see through his black contact lenses, the Chatterer and Butterball Cenobites originally having dialogue, special effects designer Simon Sayce lying on the floor in case the puzzle box was dropped, Clive Barker making cuts after the MPAA gave it an X rating, my looking forward to watching Phantasm the first time, and more!
