NEXT STOP EVERYWHERE 258: "The Awakening" Is Up!

"You speak treason!"
"Fluently!
"
-- Sir George Hutchinson and the Fifth Doctor,
Doctor Who: "The Awakening"

Hello again, everyone! My partner in time Jesse Jackson and I are back with a new episode of Next Stop Everywhere: The Doctor Who Podcast!  This time, we discuss "The Awakening", the second serial from Doctor Who Season 21 in 1984, featuring Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor, Janet Fielding as Tegan Jovanka, Mark Strickson as Vislor Turlough, and Denis Lill as Sir George Hutchinson!

In this episode, Jesse and I discuss things like Jesse and I enjoying The Batman, Jesse's initial reaction to seeing "The Awakening" for the first time, Turlough having to reassure everyone that the Doctor piloted the TARDIS where it was supposed to go, Denis Lill as Bob the Cartoonist in Batman (1989), script editor Eric Saward chopping Eric Pringle's script down to two episodes from four, John Nathan-Turner considering keeping Keith Jayne's character Will Chandler on as a companion, "The Awakening" being the first story to have the Doctor set the TARDIS on course to meet a member of a companion's family, the deleted scene featuring Tegan and Kamelion in the TARDIS, my explaining Kamelion to Jesse, the minor changes to the Fifth Doctor costume, the Fifth Doctor's TARDIS team finally not bickering with one another, Captain Willow implying he's willing to get a little rapey to force Tegan to wear the Queen of the May costume, the Fifth Doctor having to explain things to Jane Hampden and Will Chandler, wondering how Colonel Wolsey avoided being placed under the Malus' thrall like the others, Little Hodcombe staging a English Civil War re-enactment, Sir George being all in on serving the Malus, the Fifth Doctor borrowing a line from 1938's The Adventures of Robin Hood with Errol Flynn, our favorite quotes of the episode, my Reverse the Reverse the Polarity segment, new feedback from Sandi from Oregon and Holly Mac, how to watch Babylon 5 Season One, DJ Nik and I getting ready to review Moon Knight on The Fandom Zone, Xan Sprouse and I watching Christopher Eccleston in 28 Days Later on Drunk Cinema, "Invaders from Mars" featuring Simon Pegg and Jessica Stevenson from modern Doctor Who and Spaced, Jesse listening to the 4-hour discussion of The Godfather on DJ Nik's Gold Standard: The Oscars Podcast, and more!
