NEXT STOP EVERYWHERE 245: "Rose: Revisited" Is Up!

"Who are you, then? Who's that lot down there? I said, who are they?!"
"They're made of plastic. Living plastic creatures. They're being controlled by a relay device on the roof. Which would be a great big problem if...I didn't have this. So, I'm gonna go upstairs and blow it up. And I might well die in the process. But don't worry about me, no, you go home, go on! Go and have your lovely beans on toast. Don't tell anyone about this, 'cos if you do, you'll get them killed. I'm the Doctor, by the way. What's your name?"
"Rose."
"Nice to meet you, Rose. Run for your life!"
-- Rose Tyler and the Ninth Doctor, Doctor Who: "Rose"

Hello again, everyone! My partner in time Jesse Jackson and I are back with a new episode of Next Stop Everywhere: The Doctor Who Podcast!  This time, we're joined by special guest companion Xan Sprouse as we provide our commentary track for "Rose", the first episode from Doctor Who Series One in 2005, featuring the return of the Autons, along with the introduction of Christopher Eccleston as the Ninth Doctor and Billie Piper as Rose Tyler!

In this episode, Jesse, Xan and I discuss things like being less than one week away from brand-new Doctor Who, Xan and Jesse talking with Maureen Van Zandt, originally discussing "Rose" over six years ago in Episode 021, Xan being a jerk cynic about Doctor Who's return in 2005, the original plans to make Richard E. Grant the Ninth Doctor starting with "Scream of the Shalka", Xan getting into Modern Who with "Dalek", Jesse getting into Modern Who, some Series 13 news, Matt Smith appearing in Last Night in Soho, Xan getting me a bag of jelly babies as part of my belated birthday gift, Xan being terrified by my Auton action figures, the scene that sold me that Modern Who could work, "Rose" being made to appeal to both old and new Doctor Who fans, the long tracking shot of the Doctor and Rose walking through the Powell Estate, Christopher Eccleston sharing details of his eating disorder, Clive's wife thinking women couldn't be into Clive's obsession, Xan burning the cap for a salt grinder on her stove, why Mickey wasn't killed by the Autons, the homage to "Spearhead from Space", Rose abruptly kicking Mickey to the curb to travel with the Doctor, when BBC America started syncing up US Doctor Who episodes with the UK, the internet leak of "Rose" before it aired in the UK, "Rose" being a great introduction to people who know absolutely nothing of Doctor Who, new feedback from Holly Mac and Dave Proctor, Jesse and I opening up our new episode reviews for people to join us, and more!

TITANTALK 069: "Prodigal & 1917 Patrol" Is Up!

"Oh, I know something that will perk you up. Nightwing is dead. A dismal duel to the death between two beloved Bat brothers. Poetic or pathetic, you be the judge! Come on, how about a little appreciation for all of my hard work. And cool it on the feels. You know, the tragic end of Nightwing, it’s just an aperitif. The main course is the death of your beloved city. I only wish Papa Jim and Batman were around to savor it with you…along with your dearly departed Dick Grayson. God, I miss him already. Anyways, stay tuned, see you soon. Same Crane channel, same Crane time!"
-- Dr. Jonathan Crane to Barbara Gordon, Titans: "Prodigal"

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 Casts Will Poulter as Adam Warlock

And men shall call him...Warlock!

Deadline reports that the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has cast Will Poulter as Marvel Comics' cosmic messiah Adam Warlock

Returning director James Gunn confirmed the reporting on Twitter, stating "As you guys know I often strike down false rumors, so...um...Welcome to the Guardians family, Will Poulter. He's an amazing actor and wonderful guy. See you in a couple weeks. #AdamWarlock #GotGVol3."

Adam Warlock was first teased in a post-credit scene at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, when Ayesha, played by Elizabeth Debicki, reveals to her chambermaid the perfect Sovereign she created to help destroy the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Poulter, 28, is an English actor best known as Eustace Scrubb in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and Gally in The Maze Runner and Maze Runner: The Death Cure. His other films include We're the Millers, The Revenant, Detroit, and Midsommar. His TV appearances include Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, The Fades, and the upcoming miniseries Dopesick.

Initially created as the character Him by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1967's Fantastic Four (vol.1) #66, Adam Warlock was revamped by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane, first appearing in 1972's Marvel Premiere #1. Scientists on Earth calling themselves the Enclave created an artificial, perfect human who initially called himself "Him". After rebelling against his creators, and having a conflict with Thor, Him decided to leave Earth and traveled into space. He encountered the High Evolutionary, who gave him the name "Warlock". The High Evolutionary requested Warlock's help in saving the artificially created planet Counter-Earth from the evil Man-Beast and gave Warlock the green Soul Gem (also referred to as the "Soul Jewel"), which allowed Warlock to capture souls of other beings. When he arrived on Counter-Earth, Warlock was given the name "Adam" by four teenagers who befriend him. After the Man-Beast's defeat, Warlock left Counter-Earth to find a new purpose.

In his travels through space, Warlock encountered the Universal Church of Truth, an intergalactic religious organization led by the corrupt Magus. Warlock became allies with Pip the Troll, the assassin Gamora, and Thanos of Titan to oppose the Magus. Eventually, Warlock discovered that the Magus is a future version of himself who traveled back in time after being driven insane by the Soul Gem's use. Warlock chose to alter his timeline by visiting himself a few months into the future and stealing his own soul to prevent the Magus from ever existing. Warlock then continued his journeys, knowing he has seen his own death but not knowing exactly when it will happen.

When the Stranger attempted to steal Warlock's Soul Gem, Warlock learned about five other related gems. Thanos gained possession of these gems with the intention of destroying Earth's sun. When Thanos caused mortal harm to Pip and Gamora, Warlock took their souls to end their suffering. Warlock then enlisted the aid of the Avengers, Captain Marvel and Moondragon to stop Thanos. During the battle, Warlock's younger self appeared and took the older Warlock's soul. Inside the gem, Adam was reunited with Pip, Gamora and others in a utopia known as Soul World. Warlock's soul was temporarily freed from the Soul Gem, allowing him to turn Thanos to stone and save Earth.

After being resurrected, Thanos once again collected the Infinity Gems, placing them in the Infinity Gauntlet, capturing the Silver Surfer and Drax the Destroyer in the Soul Gem for opposing him. In the Soul Gem's world, the Silver Surfer met Adam Warlock and convinced him that his help was needed again to defeat Thanos. Warlock agreed, with Pip and Gamora deciding to accompany him. Warlock sent himself and his two friends into new bodies and led a group of Earth's superheroes, defeating Thanos.

Warlock obtained the Infinity Gauntlet, becoming a near-supreme being of the universe. The cosmic Living Tribunal, whose power and authority exceeded Warlock's, decided that Warlock could not be trusted to keep the Infinity Gauntlet and instructed him to divide the gems among other beings of Warlock's choosing. Warlock kept the Soul Gem for himself and gave one gem each to Pip, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Moondragon, and the reformed Thanos. Warlock named the group the Infinity Watch.

Poulter will be the first actor to portray Adam Warlock in live-action, although the character has appeared in various animated projects, including Silver Surfer (voiced by Oliver Becker), The Super Hero Squad Show (voiced by Dave Boat), The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes (voiced by Kirk Thornton), and the Guardians of the Galaxy animated series (voiced by Eric Bauza).

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently expected to be released on May 5, 2023.

-- The Rutan and Leela, Doctor Who: "Horror of Fang Rock"

Hello again, everyone!  My partner in time Jesse Jackson and I are back with a new episode of Next Stop Everywhere: The Doctor Who Podcast! This time, we discuss Russell T Davies' return as showrunner in 2023, along with "Horror of Fang Rock", the first serial from Doctor Who Season 15 in 1977, featuring Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor, Louise Jameson as Leela, Colin Douglas as Reuben, and Alan Rowe as Colonel Skinsale!

In this episode, Jesse and I discuss things like Bruce Springsteen and Sting's birthdays, special guest companion John Takacs not being able to join us for this episode, Russell T Davies being announced as the replacement showrunner for Doctor Who in 2023, J. Michael Straczynski rebooting Babylon 5, the pros and cons of Russell T Davies returning, Jesse and I leaving Southgate Media Group and helping form Wonderful & Strange Productions, writer Terrance Dicks being inspired by Wilfred Gibson's 1912 poem Flannan Isle and Ray Bradbury's 1951 short story "The Fog Horn", "Horror of Fang Rock" being a replacement for Terrance Dick's cancelled "The Vampire Mutations", why Louise Jameson stopped wearing her brown contacts at the end of this story, the scene where Leela slaps Adelaide to stop her screaming, a scene in Part 3 being crucial to the behind-the-scenes relationship between Louise Jameson and Tom Baker, Tom Baker beginning an on/off relationship with the editor of "Horror of Fang Rock", Leela not being stupid even though she's a "savage", Leela's frustration with Adelaide, Leela's change in eye pigmentation and her request to have the Doctor kill her because she was blinded, the self-absorbed yacht survivors, Lord Palmerdale being desperate to reach the stock exchange in London to use insider trading information provided by Colonel Skinsale, Colonel Skinsale calling Lord Palmerdale when Palmerdale tries to blackmail him, why Vince burned his bribe money from Lord Palmerdale, wondering if the Doctor intentionally scattered the other diamonds for greedy Colonel Skinsale to pickup, "Horror of Fang Rock"'s extremely high body count, Reuben being superstitious and dismissive of electricity, "Horror of Fang Rock" being the only on-screen appearance of the Rutans, the Rutans wanting to established a beachhead on Earth in the neverending war with the Sontarans, our favorite quotes of the episode, my Reverse the Reverse the Polarity segment, new feedback from Dave Proctor and Holly Mac, DJ Nik joining Xan Sprouse and me on Drunk Cinema to discuss Alien, Holly Mac returning to discuss "The Runaway Bride" as a Revisited commentary, and more!
