GHOSTWOOD 102: "Carrie (1976)" Is Up!

"Look what Tommy gave me, Mama. Aren't they beautiful?"
"I can see your dirty pillows. Everyone will."
"Breasts, Mama. They're called breasts, and every woman has them."
-- Carrie White and Margaret White, Carrie (1976)

It is happening again...My co-host with the most Xan Sprouse and I are back with a new episode of Ghostwood: The Twin Peaks Podcast!  This time, we continue our retrospective of Twin Peaks Actors in Other Films by discussing Carrie, the 1976 supernatural horror film based on the novel by Stephen King and directed by Brian De Palma, starring Sissy Spacek as Carrie White, Piper Laurie as Margaret White, Nancy Allen as Chris Hargensen, and John Travolta as Billy Nolan!

LET'S ROCK!

In this episode, Xan, and I discuss things like Xan driving to a Hardee's in Etna, Ohio to get Adult Swim toys, Stephen King buying a Pinto, Piper Laurie and Sissy Spacek both losing to the movie Network, Brian De Palma being a skeevy perv, MTV VJ Kennedy getting called out by Martin Landau, worrying about Courtney Cox's audition for the Bruce Springsteen "Dancing in the Dark" music video, Piper Laurie pretending to be Asian actor Fumio Yamaguchi as Twin Peaks character Mr. Tojamura, real-life mother/daughter Priscilla Pointer and Amy Irving playing mother/daughter Eleanor Snell and Sue Snell, Betty Buckley as Marie L'Angelle on Preacher, P.J. Soles in Halloween and Rock 'n Roll High School, Edie McClurg as Grace in Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Brian De Palma really wishing he could be Alfred Hitchcock, Stephen King getting rich off paperback royalties, the ending from Stephen King's novel Carrie, Betty Buckley only being two years older than Sissy Spacek, Brian De Palma making Betty Buckley slap Nancy Allen thirty times to get the reaction he wanted, the creepy statue of a religious figure representing St. Sebastian instead of Jesus Christ, Amy Irving and William Katt originally reading for Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker, Brian De Palma's creepy slo-mo opening footage from the girls' locker room, wondering why Carrie never learned about her period in health class, men being physical abusers vs. women being psychological abusers, Miss Collins making Chris and Norma jiggle for the camera, Miss Collins being too comfortable with slapping high school girls, Carrie's mom being abusive to Carrie about her period instead of supportive and understanding, Chris and Billy being horrible people, Chris being unable to let her beef with Carrie go, Carrie's mom having serious issues with men, Carrie's mom going off the rails on the crazy train, Miss Collins thinking Sue is up to something at the prom, the echoing "They're all going to laugh at you!" as Carrie is covered in pig's blood, Carrie going full Dark Phoenix, another creepy De Palma scene as Carrie takes a bath to clean off the pig's blood, Carrie's mom bringing a knife to a telekinesis fight, the shock ending where Carrie's hand suddenly reaches out of the ground for Sue, Carrie's revenge rampage covering up all the crimes that took place, Margaret White as a religious slut-shamer, our favorite Stephen King movie adaptations, a Facebook post from April Hannah, Xan and I watching The Omen on Drunk Cinema, and more!
