NEXT STOP EVERYWHERE 234: "The Girl in the Fireplace" Is Up!

"Doctor...Doctor who?  It's more than just a secret, isn't it?"
"What did you see?"
"That there comes a time, Time Lord, when every lonely little boy must learn how to dance."
-- Reinette and the Tenth Doctor, Doctor Who: "The Girl in the Fireplace"

Hello again, everyone!  My returning partner in time Jesse Jackson and I are back with a special episode of Next Stop Everywhere: The Doctor Who Podcast!  This time, we're joined by special guest companion Lori Skaggs to discuss "The Girl in the Fireplace", the fourth episode from Doctor Who Series Two in 2006, featuring David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor, Billie Piper as Rose Tyler, Sophia Myles as Reinette/Madame de Pompadour, and the first appearance of the Clockwork Droids!

In this episode, Jesse, Lori and I discuss things like Jesse returning to Next Stop Everywhere after his surgery, Lori finally agreeing to come on Next Stop Everywhere after seven years of asking, the three of us knowing one another for 28 years, Jesse walking Lori down the aisle at our wedding, Jesse making Lori a Podcast Widow, why Jesse needed surgery and his recovery, how Lori got into Doctor Who, "The Girl in the Fireplace" being Lori's favorite Doctor Who episode, my rebuffing people and saving "The Girl in the Fireplace" for Lori to discuss, Lori's appreciation for the authentic costuming, Sophia Myles voicing the S.S. Madame de Pompadour in the Lockdown short "Pompadour", Russell T Davies' work on Casanova inspiring him to want to write about Madame de Pompadour, "The Girl in the Fireplace" having no Season 2 Torchwood reference, Sophia Myles and David Tennant dating after working together, Arthur the horse not being allowed to set foot in the ballroom, differences in the original script, Lori's historical trivia regarding Madame de Pompadour, the Tenth Doctor being attracted to Madame de Pompadour's intelligence, Madame de Pompadour being the aggressor in their romance, getting a small glimpse of the Doctor's loneliness and sadness, "dancing" as a metaphor for sex, Reinette's final letter to the Doctor, Mickey's first trip in the TARDIS as an official companion, Rose being jealous of Madame de Pompadour, Rose wanting something more than Mickey, the Clockwork Droids stalking Madame de Pompadour through various periods of her life, the Clockwork Droids cannibalizing the crew of the S.S. Madame de Pompadour for replacement parts, our favorite quotes of the episode, the Doctor "inventing" the banana daiquiri, my Reverse the Polarity segment, new feedback from Holly Mac, Jesse stepping away from Next Stop Everywhere, Lori and I doing well together during crisis situations, and more!
