NEXT STOP EVERYWHERE 304: "The Church on Ruby Road" Is Up!

"I'm going to have to report this."
"Name -- The Doctor. Occupation -- not a doctor. Current status -- just passing by. Employer -- myself. Address -- that blue box over there. Now, if you don't mind, I just got snowmanned, and I would like to go home."
-- Police Officer and the Fifteenth Doctor, Doctor Who: "The Church on Ruby Road"

Hello again, everyone! My partner in time Jesse Jackson and I are back with a new episode of Next Stop Everywhere: The Doctor Who Podcast! This time, we're joined by special guest companions DJ Nik & Holly Mac as we discuss "The Church on Ruby Road", the 2023 Doctor Who Christmas Special, featuring Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor and introducing Millie Gibson as new companion Ruby Sunday!

In this episode, Jesse, Nik, Holly, and I discuss things like everything being right with the world now that Doctor Who has a Christmas Special again, my being unable to say no to Holly, Jesse's reaction to getting the first Doctor Who Christmas Special since 2017, Nik liking that the Christmas Special wasn't heavy on Christmas, Ruby probably getting a ton of Rolling Stones jokes over the years, Nik discouraging me from watching Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Davina McCall as the Davinadroid in "Bad Wolf", Anita Dobson being the wife of Queen's Brian May, this episode being the second time since the 2005 relaunch that a Doctor's first full post-regeneration story was a Christmas Special, the Easter Egg with Henrik's department store from "Rose", Angela Wynter being only 12 years older than Michelle Greenridge, our thoughts on Ncuti Gatwa's first full episode and his chemistry with Millie Gibson, my happiness at the Doctor saying he was adopted, fostering also getting great representation, the Doctor and Ruby both having a mystery of where they came from, Millie Gibson looking like the love child of Billie Piper and Jenna Coleman, George Lucas' idea of the Midichlorians to explain how Anakin Skywalker was created, our theory that Ruby was the one who left Baby Ruby at the church, our hope that Ruby won't fall in love with the Doctor, Cherry flirting with the Fifteenth Doctor, the Doctor being happy that he's not getting slapped by a companion's mother for once, my wanting Cherry to get her cup of tea already, wondering what Carla's reaction is going to be when Ruby returns to Earth in 2024, Carla becoming a cynical person without Ruby in her life, Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson both having great singing voices, Nik's definition of ELF, the homage to Gremlins, the Doctor being lucky he didn't impale Baby Ruby with the church steeple, waiting for the complaints that "The Goblin Song" is about eating babies, our theories about who Mrs. Flood could be, our favorite quotes of the episode, the passing of Doctor Who actor Richard Franklin, new feedback from Megan Stover, Ken from Chicago, and Dave Proctor, my scheduling our next episode on the fly, and more!
