NEXT STOP EVERYWHERE 292: "Monsters in Metropolis" Is Up!

"I’ve never heard a Cyberman speak like this."
"No?"
"Usually, they’re all ‘Resistance is useless’ and ‘You will be like us’. Boring conversationalists, really, you wouldn’t want to be stuck with them for a long car ride."
-- The Ninth Doctor and Dieter Jovanovich, Doctor Who: "Monsters in Metropolis"

Hello again, everyone! My partner in time Jesse Jackson and I are back with a new episode of Next Stop Everywhere: The Doctor Who Podcast! This time, we discuss "Monsters in Metropolis", the third audio drama from Big Finish Productions' Doctor Who: Lost Warriors set from 2021, featuring Christopher Eccleston as the Ninth Doctor, Nick Wilton as Fritz Lang, Helen Goldwyn as Anna Dreyfus, and Nicholas Briggs as the voice of the Cyberman!

In this episode, Jesse and I discuss things like Jesse being happy that I needed an extra few minutes before recording, Jesse trying to watch the 1927 silent film Metropolis without any accompanying music, neither of us having watched Metropolis before discussing this audio drama, Jesse's thoughts on finally listening to Christopher Eccleston reprise the Ninth Doctor on audio, why I picked "Monsters in Metropolis" as our first Ninth Doctor audio from Big Finish, some background on Fritz Lang's Metropolis, "Monsters in Metropolis" being the first story in a performed medium where the Ninth Doctor encounters the Cybermen, writer John Dorney's inspiration for the story, the Cybermen originally not being planned to appear in the set, where this story fits in the Ninth Doctor's continuity, my wanting Big Finish to give us the first Ninth Doctor story after the regeneration in "The Day of the Doctor", the Ninth Doctor reacting to the Cyberman like he reacted to the Dalek in "Dalek", the Doctor taking the Cyberman to watch the finished Metropolis film in a theater, wondering if the Doctor killed the Cyberman as the Cyberman requested, real-life people Fritz Lang and Anna Dreyfus being portrayed as fictional characters, the Doctor realizing that Anna is Jewish and warning her to leave Germany before Hitler and the Nazis take power, Anna convincing Fritz Lang to use Brigitte Helm as the Machine Man, our favorite quotes of the story, my Reverse the Polarity segment, new feedback from Holly Mac, my upcoming sinus surgery, our upcoming discussion of "The Android Invasion", and more!
