DRUNK CINEMA 042: "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (2005)" Is Up!

"In the beginning, the Universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry has been widely regarded as a bad move."
-- The Guide, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (2005)

Hello again, movie fans!  My wonderful co-host Xan Sprouse and I are back with a new episode of Drunk Cinema! This time, we watch The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxythe 2005 film based on the Douglas Adams novel and directed by Garth Jennings, featuring Martin Freeman as Arthur Dent, Sam Rockwell as Zaphod Beeblebrox, Zooey Deschanel as Trillian, and Alan Rickman as the voice of Marvin the Paranoid Android!

In this episode, Xan and I discuss things like Hitchhiker's fandom being an indicator of growing up as a geek in the '80s, how I became a huge fan of Hitchhiker's and Douglas Adams, Xan's 42 towel, the 1981 BBC TV adaptation, Xan adoring Stephen Fry, this being our third Alan Rickman movie, Zooey Deschanel's loose Twin Peaks connection, the Eagles originating the Hitchhiker's theme "Journey of the Sorcerer", comparing the 2005 movie actors to the 1981 TV actors, why the movie version of Marvin was a big disappointment, Xan's recipe for a real-life Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster, my watching Hitchhiker's in the theater, Xan identifying with people not recognizing Trillian's Charles Darwin costume, Sting's version of the song "Someone to Watch Over Me", the drastic change of Zaphod's second head, using a lightsaber as a bread knife, the Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe and Everything, wondering if the movie would've done better at the box office if it had been closer to the BBC TV series, Martin Freeman being a perfect Arthur Dent, the cameo appearance by the BBC TV series version of Marvin, Xan calling out Arthur for being an incel, the astounding lack of botanical information being taught in schools, the two mice trying to take over the world, the Vogons being defeated by a small garden gate, a cameo appearance by annoying Facebook notifications, a special song from the past, and more!
