NEXT STOP EVERYWHERE 283: "The Aztecs" Is Up!

"Oh, don't you see? If I could start the destruction of everything that's evil here...then everything that's good would survive when Cortez lands."
"But you can't rewrite history! Not one line!"
-- Barbara Wright and the First Doctor, Doctor Who: "The Aztecs"

Hello again, everyone! My partner in time Jesse Jackson and I are back with a new episode of Next Stop Everywhere: The Doctor Who Podcast! This time, we're joined by special guest companion DJ Nik to discuss "The Aztecs", the sixth serial from Doctor Who Season One in 1964, featuring William Hartnell as the First Doctor, William Russell as Ian Chesterton, Jacqueline Hill as Barbara Wright, and Carole Ann Ford as Susan Foreman!

In this episode, Jesse, Nik and I discuss things like Nik taking up residence in the TARDIS, "The Aztecs" being a purely historical story apart from the TARDIS, Jesse finding more affection for the First Doctor, Nik doing a project on the Aztecs in high school, being sad that John Lucarotti's other Doctor Who stories aren't available on video, historical Doctor Who stories made in the Modern Era always having a science-fiction element, Jesse visiting Mexico, our plea to get former special guest companion John Takacs back on the show, Lucarotti becoming fascinated by the Aztecs' tradition of human sacrifice, real-life Aztec women going around topless, Tlotoxl being one of the few Doctor Who villains who never receives any sort of comeuppance, Carole Ann Ford taking a holiday during the filming of Episodes 2 and 3, the Doctor getting himself accidentally engaged to Cameca, the Doctor trying to keep Barbara from forcing her values on the Aztecs, Cameca being seen as a respected elder, the First Doctor having a problem with later Doctors changing history, the Doctor going back to take Cameca's seal so he can remember her, the First Doctor calling out Barbara for wanting to change history, the Doctor consoling Barbara after her plan failed, the Fourth Doctor being tempted to change history in "Genesis of the Daleks", Ixta viewing Ian as a serious rival, wishing Nik's Cousin Janet a happy birthday, wondering where Ian learned his wrestling moves, Ixta being nice to Ian one moment and then wanting to murder him the next, Ixta losing to Ian's thumb, Ian as Indiana Jones inside the tomb, Tlotoxl viewing Barbara as a false goddess, Susan having a Women's Lib moment by refusing to be married off to the Perfect Victim, Tlotoxl being similar to Loki as a trickster and schemer, Autloc giving up his title and possessions to go walk the Earth like Kane in Kung Fu, our favorite quotes of the story, my Reverse the Reverse the Polarity segment, new feedback from Dave Proctor, Sandi from Oregon and Holly Mac, Nik returning to close out our trilogy of Hartnell stories with "The Sensorites", and more!
