NEXT STOP EVERYWHERE 266: "The Claws of Axos" Is Up!

"What else can we do?"
"Oh, nothing very much. Oh, I suppose you can take the usual precautions against nuclear blast, like sticky tape on the windows and that sort of thing."
-- Sir George Hardiman and The First Master, Doctor Who: "The Claws of Axos"

Hello again, everyone! My partner in time Jesse Jackson and I are back with a new episode of Next Stop Everywhere: The Doctor Who Podcast! This time, we discuss "The Claws of Axos", the third serial from Doctor Who Season 8 in 1970, featuring Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor, Katy Manning as Jo Grant, Nicholas Courtney as the Brigadier, and Roger Delgado as the First Master!

In this episode, Jesse and I discuss things like both of our moms having serious health problems, Doctor Who having issues with petty British bureaucrats, Fernanda Marlowe as Corporal Carol Bell, Bernard Holley returning as an Axon decades later in Big Finish's The Feast of Axos, writers Bob Baker & Dave Martin being told to scale down the budget on the story, the original story title "The Vampire from Space" being changed halfway through production, the invention of the phrase "freak weather conditions" to explain variations in weather from shot to shot, the first TARDIS interior scenes in the Jon Pertwee era, one of the Axon costumes being repainted green and reused in "The Seeds of Doom", Jesse not buying that the Doctor was going to leave Earth with the Master, the Doctor still caring about the Master, Jo being told to stay behind while all the men go to explore the Axon spacecraft, the Master's reaction to the shambled state of the Doctor's TARDIS, the Doctor playing 3-D Chess with the Master and the Axons, that awkward moment when the Doctor realizes the Time Lords have programmed his TARDIS to always return to Earth, wondering why UNIT didn't have at least one American representative, the Axons dismissing the homeless guy they captured as atypical intelligence, Mike Yates and Sgt. Benton's action scene fighting the Axons, Horatio Chinn being another horrible British bureaucrat, the Axons' big con to give "Axonite" to everyone around the world, Chinn's hypocrisy of seeing the Axons as a threat until he realized Britain could make money off of them, the Axons becoming interested in the Doctor's knowledge of time travel, our favorite quotes of the episode, my Reverse the Reverse the Polarity segment, new feedback from Holly from Wisconsin, Sandi from Oregon and Dave Proctor, some Twitter feedback from new listener Richard Wegner, our upcoming discussion of "The Ark in Space", and more!
