THE FANDOM ZONE 245: "Crushed" Is Up!

"So, I guess super-strength is not a part of the equation."
"Yeah, well, maybe I should've tried harder in gym."
-- Bruno Carrelli and Kamala Khan, Ms. Marvel: "Crushed"

Hello again, everyone! It's time for another new episode of The Fandom Zone Podcast!  This time, DJ Nik and I discuss "Crushed", the second episode of the Marvel series Ms. Marvel, featuring Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, Matt Lintz as Bruno Carrelli, and introducing Rish Shah as Kamran and Nimra Bucha as Najma!

In this episode, DJ Nik and I talk about things like finding out on my birthday that my computer was zapped by AEP Ohio's intentional power outage, Kamala getting the training montage, my love for the name Illumin-Aunties, the divided fan reaction to the show, the title "Crushed" coming from a Ms. Marvel trade paperback, some comics background on Kamran, some historical background on the Partition of India that created Pakistan, the episode's nod to Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, both of Kamala and Kamran's moms having a crush on Kingo of the Eternals, The Fandom Zone Podcast becoming a very cosmopolitan podcast, Kamala quickly falling for Kamran, Zoe's terrible superhero name "Night Light", Kamala and Kamran geeking out over Bollywood films, Bruno trying hard to learn Kamala's culture that comes naturally to Kamran, wondering why a Millennial like Kamala is a fan of the 1963 Ronettes' classic "Be My Baby", Damage Control's interrogation of Zoe Zimmer, Sadie Deever being a racist Islamophobe, Nakia throwing her hijab into the ring to run for the mosque board, the scene from the comics where Kamala calls out Sheikh Abdullah for women having to sit at the back of the mosque, Nakia persuading Yusuf to vote for her and being a natural politician, the mosque having a shoe thief, wondering what language is on Kamala's bangle, Kamala calling her grandmother Sana about her great-grandmother Aisha, wondering is Najma is a substitute for Lineage from the comics, Kamala's big Hero Moment fail, Ms. Marvel being a Millennial version of Spider-Man, calling out critics who don't like Ms. Marvel but enjoy Stargirlour favorite quotes of the episode, new Fandom Zone Fanmail from Holly Mac and Jesse Jackson, Bruce Springsteen fans vs. Bon Jovi fans, Marvel developing a Wonder Man TV series, and more!
