DRUNK CINEMA 027: "The Blues Brothers" Is Up!

"There are 106 miles to Chicago — We have a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses."
"Hit it."
-- Elwood J. Blues and "Joliet" Jake Blues,
The Blues Brothers

Hello again, movie fans!  My wonderful co-host Xan Sprouse and I are back with a new episode of Drunk Cinema! This time, we watch The Blues Brothersthe 1980 musical comedy film directed by John Landis, featuring John Belushi as "Joliet" Jake Blues, Dan Aykroyd as Elwood J. Blues, Cab Calloway as Curtis, and Carrie Fisher as the Mystery Woman!

In this episode, Xan and I discuss things like my only being 11 when The Blues Brothers was in theaters, Xan's dad pretending to speed toward an open drawbridge to jump it, some gruesome trivia on John Landis' segment of Twilight Zone: The Movie, Vincent Price's rap in Michael Jackson's song "Thriller", Dan Aykroyd not knowing how to write a movie script, the Blues Brothers band being actual musicians, The Blues Brothers reversing some of the backlash against R&B artists, Elwood not being told that Jake is dead in Blues Brothers 2000, the orphans being traumatized every day by a terrifying Jesus statue, Kathleen Freeman as Sister Mary Stigmata, the SCMODS, the mall car chase, the Cheese Whiz Guy, the Chez Paul sequence, Steve Martin's song "King Tut", guitarist Steve Cropper, the theme from Rawhide, my uncle having a Winnebago just like The Good Ol' Boys, Elwood missing his chance to have sex with Twiggy, the two legitimately good Saturday Night Live character movies, The Blues Brothers setting the record for the most cars destroyed in a movie, the Illinois Nazis car needing a Certificate from the FAA to be dropped 1,200 feet, the death of the Bluesmobile, Steven Spielberg's cameo as the Cook County Assessor, the scene of Twiggy waiting for Elwood at the hotel needing to be a post-credit scene, Christine Peruski returning to the Drunk Cinema Theater, Xan shopping for Pez while we're recording, and more!
