DRUNK CINEMA 023: "Superman II" Is Up!

Hello again, movie fans!  My wonderful co-host Xan Sprouse and I are back with a new episode of Drunk Cinema! This time, we watch Superman IIthe 1981 superhero film directed by Richard Lester, featuring Christopher Reeve as Superman/Clark Kent, Margot Kidder as Lois Lane, Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor, and Terence Stamp as General Zod!

In this episode, Xan and I discuss things like celebrating my Dad's 87th birthday, Xan's mom sleeping through House of Gucci, Superman II being a sentimental favorite, the Salkinds replacing Richard Donner as director with Richard Lester, Richard Lester and the Salkinds thinking East Houston, Idaho is somewhere in redneck Texas, Clifton James as Sheriff J.W. Pepper in two James Bond movies, the lower production values compared to Superman (1978), how the Phantom Zone portal ended up in Earth's solar system, wondering how Clark's pants survived getting struck by a taxi cab, wondering how Lex Luthor doesn't get noticed in the prison spotlight, Xan not liking the Magic Fingers bed, Luthor picking the exact crystal that gives him information on the Phantom Zone criminals, Clark rescuing Lois from a raging river without revealing his secret identity, the passing of Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman, Clark being beaten up in the diner by Rocky, wondering how Clark didn't get frostbite walking back to the Fortress of Solitude, Superman using Lex Luthor to trick General Zod, Xan calling out Margot Kidder's bad ear piercings, Drunk Mail from Doom Patrol stunt coordinator Thom Williams and Christine Peruski, Xan continuing her watch with Superman III, my upcoming appearances on Gold Standard: The Oscars Podcast to discuss the first two Godfather films, Xan loving white trash metal as a guilty pleasure, Portsmouth, Ohio being the town that can't pronounce its own name correctly, discussing 28 Days Later because Cillian Murphy is Irish, and more!
