NEXT STOP EVERYWHERE 229: "The New World" Is Up!

"And what the hell is this bridge?  Severn Bridge?"
"It connects England to Wales."
"What, you mean Wales is separate?  It's like the British equivalent of New Jersey."
-- Rex Matheson & Esther Drummond, Torchwood: "The New World"

Hello again, everyone!  I'm back with a new episode of Next Stop Everywhere: The Doctor Who Podcast!  This time, Torchwood Month concludes as I'm joined by special guest companion Christine Peruski to discuss "The New World", the first episode from Torchwood: Miracle Day in 2011, featuring John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness, Eve Myles as Gwen Cooper, and introducing Mekhi Phifer as Rex Matheson and Bill Pullman as Oswald Danes!

In this episode, Christine and I discuss things like DJ Nik hoarding Christine's recording time, The Crow: Salvation, Mekhi Phifer in the 2004 Dawn of the Dead, Bill Pullman as Lone Starr in Spaceballs, Christine's first reaction to Torchwood: Miracle Day, Torchwood: Miracle Day feeling too American and having too many episodes, Torchwood Season 4 almost airing on Fox instead of Starz, Esther Drummond originally being called Esther Katusi and intended for a non-white actress, "The New World" being only the third Doctor Who Universe episode to be filmed in the United States, Gwen and Rhys living a paranoid life in seclusion after Children of Earth, Gwen risking exposure to visit her father in the hospital, Gwen's mum trying to give baby Anwen a complex about her weight, Christine firing gun blanks as part of her acting class, Captain Jack leaving himself a cosmic Google Alert to let him know when Gwen was in trouble, the suicide bomber who blew himself up only to end up spread out on a table because he couldn't die, Captain Jack posing as Owen Harper, Torchwood returning to Roald Dahl Plass, Rex ignoring the flight attendant who wants him to turn his cell phone off, Russell T Davies thinking Torchwood: Miracle Day needed creepy child molester Oswald Danes, the Families coming up with a ridiculously complex plan to get revenge on Captain Jack Harkness, Rex learning absolutely nothing after being impaled by a steel rod through his heart, Esther constantly explaining things to Rex, Captain Jack being Enigmatic Jack instead of Flamboyant Jack, Starz wanting everything about UK culture explained for American audiences, an explanation of what "rendition" is, our favorite quotes of the episode, my Reverse the Polarity segment, new feedback from Dave Proctor and Holly Mac, and more!
