NEXT STOP EVERYWHERE 217: "The Mysterious Planet" Is Up!

"Planets come and go.  Stars perish.  Matter disperses, coalesces, forms into other patterns, other worlds.  Nothing can be eternal."
-- The Sixth Doctor, Doctor Who: "The Mysterious Planet"

Hello again, everyone!  My partner in time Jesse Jackson and I are back with a new episode of Next Stop Everywhere: The Doctor Who Podcast!  In this episode, we're joined by special guest companion Rachel Frend from The Five(ish) Fangirls Podcast to discuss "The Mysterious Planet", Parts One to Four of "The Trial of a Time Lord", the first serial from Doctor Who Season 23 in 1986, featuring Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor and Nicola Bryant as Peri Brown, and introducing Michael Jayston as The Valeyard and Tony Selby as Sabalom Glitz!

In this episode, Jesse, Rachel and I discuss things like the magic words that make Rachel appear, why Rachel loves the Sixth Doctor so much, "The Trial of a Time Lord" being a metaphor for the Doctor Who TV series being on trial by the BBC, the Big Finish appearances of Michael Jayston as The Valeyard, the full Gallifreyan name for the Inquisitor, the BBC announcing that the original plans for Season 23 were cancelled, the horrible charity single "Doctor in Distress", the four Season 23 stories being considered one long 14-part story "The Trial of a Time Lord", John Nathan-Turner wanting to switch from film recording to videotape back during Peter Davison's first season, Roger Brierley not being able to fit the Drathro robot costume, the introduction of the Valeyard and the Inquisitor and the trial framing sequences, the Sixth Doctor finding out he was deposed as Lord President of Gallifrey, the Inquisitor actually being fair to the Doctor, Jesse wondering if there was an arrest warrant and charges for the Doctor, Colin Baker hamming it up during the courtroom scenes, Peri getting a better hairstyle and actual pants, the Sixth Doctor and Peri's contentious relationship becoming much more friendly, Peri trying to make the Doctor understand that she's upset over what happened to Earth, the introduction of Tony Selby as Sabalom Glitz, Queen Katryca wanting to share Peri with the men of her tribe, Balazar pissing off the Sixth Doctor by calling him "Old One", Drathro getting checkmated by Glitz and Dibber, our favorite quotes of the episode, my Reverse the Reverse the Polarity segment, new feedback from Holly Mac, Dave Proctor and Jeff Hilke, Glitz resetting the Brigadier's "Five rounds rapid" line, my pick for the Fourteenth Doctor, Jesse and I talking WandaVision on The Fandom Zone Podcast, DJ Nik and I talking Wonder Woman on The Five(ish) Fangirls Podcast, doing the Mindwarp again, and more!
