NEXT STOP EVERYWHERE 154: "Warriors of the Deep" is Up!

"When did you meet the Silurians, Doctor?"
"A long time ago.  I let them down then, seems I'll do so again."
-- Tegan Jovanka and the Fifth Doctor, Doctor Who: "Warriors of the Deep"

Hello again, everyone!  Special guest companion John Takacs returns to Next Stop Everywhere: The Doctor Who Podcast to help me discuss "Warriors of the Deep", the first serial from Doctor Who Season 21 in 1984, featuring Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor, Janet Fielding as Tegan Jovanka, Mark Strickson as Vislor Turlough, and the return of the Silurians and the Sea Devils!

In this episode, John and I discuss things like "Warriors of the Deep" being my least-favorite Davison era story ever, my getting a bad case of the Myrka stomach virus, guilty Doctor Who pleasures, Doctor Who writer Johnny Byrne vs. comic book artist/writer John Byrne, episode cycling on PBS, Margaret Thatcher cutting two weeks out of the production, the rushed creation of the Myrka costume, Ian Levine being hired to find continuity errors, Peter Davison and Janet Fielding quitting Doctor Who, Turlough's off-screen decision not to return home, the Doctor making a similar decision to the Brigadier's about killing the Silurians, Eric Saward liking to kill everybody in his scripts, Tegan's leg miraculously becoming uninjured in Part 4, Turlough getting drafted into defending Sea Base 4, Turlough struggling to lift Lt. Preston, Tegan not having anything to do, Dr. Solow and Nilson being double agents for the enemy, Michael Grade using a bad scene in "Warriors of the Deep" to support his argument to take Doctor Who off the air, Maddox getting controlled by Solow and Nilson, alternate casting for Commander Vorshak, extreme guyliner in 2084, the Sea Devils having floppy heads, the Sea Devils samurai-like armor, the Doctor saying he knew Silurian leader Ichtar even though they never met in "The Silurians", the Sea Devils becoming the Silurians' henchmen, the script's ambition overtaking the reality of the production, the Sea Devils deflating when they die, our favorite quotes of the story, my Reverse the Reverse the Polarity segment, new listener feedback from Holly Mac, John's new Type 2 Doctor Who Facebook support group for Doctor Who fans with diabetes, and more!
