SUPERGIRL Season 2 Adds Lena Luthor, Maggie Sawyer & More

Some new faces are coming to National City.

TVLine has word that the CBS CW series Supergirl is adding five new characters for the show's upcoming second season, including two new series regulars.

The first new series regular is Lena Luthor, the younger sister of Superman's arch-enemy Lex Luthor, who will be cast in the 25-35 year old range and "arrives in town to get out from under the shadow of her infamous brother. She’s described as sexy and smart and determined to get what she wants. But what does she want? That remains unclear." Created in 1961 by Jerry Siegel and Kurt Schaffenberger, Lena first appeared in Superman's Girlfriend Lois Lane #23.

The other new regular is Nick Farrow, a "brash leading man who butts heads with Kara at CatCo.  The son of a famous reporter, Nick is looking to make a name for himself in the news world but the question of whether he can leave behind his former selfish and hedonistic ways will constantly arise. In hanging out with Kara, the hero in Nick might finally come out."  Farrow appears to be a new character created for the show.

Three recurring characters include Maggie Sawyer, who is described in the article as "an out and proud detective for the newly formed Science Police, which deals specifically with metahuman and alien threats."  Created in 1987 by John Byrne, Maggie Sawyer first appeared in Superman (vol.2) #4 as the head of the Metropolis Special Crimes Unit.

Snapper Carr is described as "a veteran journalist appointed by Cat to remake the news division by going old school (not to be confused with the Justice League sidekick)."  Created in 1960 by Gardner Fox and Mike Sekowsky, Lucas "Snapper" Carr first appeared in The Brave and the Bold (vol.1) #28 as a teenager who helps the Justice League defeat the giant alien starfish Starro and becomes their sidekick.

The final recurring character is called "The Doctor, the diabolical female leader of Project Cadmus who uses her surgical skills to implant prisoners with alien technology" and is speculated in the article as Serling Roquette.  My own speculation is that she's Amanda Spence, the daughter of Paul Westfield, a former Director of Project Cadmus.  Created in 1996 by Ron Marz and Ramon Bernado, Amanda Spence first appeared in Superboy (vol.4) #32 as a a field operative for the Agenda.  She was tasked by the Directors with capturing Superboy, part of a plot to clone the teen superhero.

Supergirl will return for Season 2 this fall on The CW.
