SUPERGIRL Casts Red Tornado, T.O. Morrow & Sam Lane

Supergirl's world just keeps getting bigger.

ComicBook.com revealed yesterday that the upcoming CBS series Supergirl has cast Iddo Goldberg in the dual roles of DC Comics characters T.O. Morrow and his android creation, Red Tornado.

According to Warner Bros. Television, Red Tornado is "the most advanced android the world has ever seen. Designed by scientist T.O. Morrow for the U.S. Army as the ultimate superweapon, he soon becomes sentient, posing a grave danger to National City -- including the people Supergirl cares about most."

Created in 1968 by Gardner Fox and Dick Dillon, the silver age Red Tornado first appeared in Justice League of America (vol.1) #64 as a sentient android created by Morrow who shows up at the Justice Society of America's headquarters on Earth-Two, claiming to be the "original" Red Tornado—a woman from the 1940s named Ma Hunkel.  Morrow, however, programmed the Red Tornado android to defeat the JSA and cover his tracks by making each "murder" appear to be an accident.  Red Tornado suspected Morrow was behind the "deaths" and was on the verge of defeating him when Morrow fled through a dimensional portal to Earth-One. Together with JSA and the Justice League of America, they defeated Morrow, and the JSA admitted Red Tornado as a full member in gratitude.  After saving Earth-Two from a weapon used by the Nebula Man that hurled him through a dimensional rift to Earth-One, Red Tornado soon became a member of the JLA.

T.O. Morrow was created in 1964 by John Broome and Carmine Infantino, first appearing in The Flash (vol.1) #143 as Thomas Oscar Morrow, a scientist who created a special "television set" that would allow him to see only 100 years or more into the future.  He would examine many of the futuristic instruments and then replicate them for use in his present time, which were then used to commit various types of crimes.  T.O. Morrow utilized one of the inventions to successfully create duplicates of Green Lantern, in the hopes of giving The Flash and Green Lantern a challenge.

Meanwhile, IGN has word that Glenn Morshower has been cast in the recurring role of General Sam Lane, father of Lois and Lucy Lane.

Sam Lane is described in the article as "a powerful military lifer -- and an overprotective father to both Lucy Lane and her sister, Lois.  His arrival in National City stirs up trouble for Supergirl when he enlists her in a dangerous government initiative."

Created in 1959 by Robert Bernstein and Kurt Schaffenberger, Sam Lane first appeared in Superman's Girl Friend, Lois Lane #13 as a horse farmer in the town of Pittsdale, but was later reimagined as a hard and outspoken US Army General who often causes problems for Superman and his daughter Lois. Lane had wanted his eldest child to be a boy, so had treated Lois as a surrogate son, when he was present at all.

Morshower will be the third actor to portray Sam Lane in live action, after Harve Presnell on Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, and Michael Ironside on the CW series Smallville.  The character has also appeared in various animated projects, including Superman: The Animated Series (voiced by Dean Jones), All-Star Superman (voiced by Steven Blum), Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox (voiced by Danny Huston), and Justice League: Throne of Atlantis (voiced by Jay K. Johnson).

Supergirl will premiere on CBS on October 26, 2015.
