NEXT STOP EVERYWHERE 342: "The Well" Is Up!

"The entire surface of this planet was once made out of diamonds."
"What? What is this planet called?"
"6-7-6-7."
"The old name. 400,000 years ago, what was the planet called?"
"Midnight."
-- Shaya Costallion and the Fifteenth Doctor, Doctor Who: "The Well"

Hello again, everyone! My partner in time Jesse Jackson and I are back for another new episode of Next Stop Everywhere: The Doctor Who Podcast! This time, we discuss "The Well", the third episode from Doctor Who Series 15, featuring Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor, Varada Sethu as Belinda Chandra, Rose Ayling-Ellis as Aliss Fenly, and Caoilfhionn Dunne as Shaya Costallion!

In this episode, Jesse and I discuss things like Jesse's favorite line of the episode, "The Well" having the dark and creepy tone that we needed, the first three episodes of the season being strong for the first time in a while, deaf actress Rose Ayling-Ellis, how to pronounce Caoilfhionn Dunne's first name, the script being originally intended to feature a Nigerian spirit called the Orishas, Russell T Davies having to change part of the script when Rose Ayling-Ellis was cast as Aliss, "The Well" being the most-difficult episode of Series 15 to film, wondering why costume designers don't make costumes easier to use the restroom, the previous Doctor Who episode that featured Britney Spears' "Toxic", the episode's references to Aliens and Alien 3, the Doctor immediately communicating with Aliss using British Sign Language, some etiquette when communicating with a deaf person, wondering if the TARDIS deliberately fabricated the exact same space suits worn by the troopers, screen time saved by using the Doctor's psychic paper, Belinda's first trip to an alien planet, learning that "The Well" is a sequel to "Midnight", the Midnight Entity hinting at a possible connection to the Time Beetle from "Turn Left", Belinda's character trait of wanting to help people, Jesse enjoying the season-long mystery arc, Cassio being a jerk and staging a mutiny against Shaya, Shaya using Aliss and the Midnight Entity to take Cassio off the board, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Shaya's sacrifice being invalidated by the tease that the Midnight Entity survived, wondering why Aliss went out into space and didn't bring her 1-year-old daughter along, the character of Aliss being more interesting and effective as a deaf character, how the Midnight Entity could know the Doctor's real name, wondering why no one was harmed by the release of poisonous mercury vapor, the Midnight Entity having a different bag of tricks than what it had in "Midnight", Mrs. Flood being delighted that the Doctor is using a Vindicator, our favorite quotes of the episode, new listener feedback from Dave Proctor, Holly Mac, Sandi from Oregon, and Megan from Oregon, Dave Proctor returning to Next Stop Everywhere, and more!
