"Doctor, why is that we always land up in trouble?"
"Well, Victoria...It's the spice of life, my dear."
-- Victoria Waterfield and the Second Doctor, Doctor Who: "Fury from the Deep"
Hello again, everyone! My partner in time Jesse Jackson and I are back for another new episode of Next Stop Everywhere: The Doctor Who Podcast! This time, we're joined by special guest Holly Mac as we discuss "Fury from the Deep", the sixth serial from Doctor Who Season 5 in 1968, featuring Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor, Frazer Hines as Jamie McCrimmon, and the final appearance of Deborah Watling as Victoria Waterfield!
In this episode, Jesse, Holly and I discuss things like Jesse geeking out having new Doctor Who, "Fury from the Deep" sounding like an Adele song, Doctor Who and the Pescatons, Jesse enjoying the surviving audio from "Fury from the Deep" more than watching the animation, the Target novelization by Victor Pemberton, Richard Railton as Rimmer's Dad on Red Dwarf, cast members June Murphy and Brian Cullingford meeting during the filming and later getting married, Victor Pemberton basing this serial on his radio drama The Slide that featured Roger Delgado in the Doctor role, the BBC not wanting to use the original title "The Colony of Devils" in a family program but then later used "The Sea Devils", the first appearance of the Sonic Screwdriver, a safety whistle being the first Sonic Screwdriver, Victoria's screams not being Deborah Watling's screams, Victor Pemberton basing Mr. Oak and Mr. Quill on Laurel and Hardy, Pemberton being the first person involved with Doctor Who as an actor and a writer, Victoria wondering why the TARDIS never goes anywhere peaceful and calm, Jesse and his grandfather, Victoria being burned out with traveling with the Doctor and Jamie, Jamie not wanting to let Victoria leave, Victoria's decision to stay with the Harrises instead of waiting to go back to her own time period, the "Fury from the Deep" drinking game, the great cliffhanger to Episode 5 with John Robson transformed into a Weed monster, the Second Doctor flying a helicopter, our favorite quotes of the story, new listener feedback from Holly Mac (!), Dave Proctor, Megan Stover, and Sandi from Oregon, another appearance by the Master's wanted poster, getting a new Fifteenth Doctor episode, and more!
